I actually got to go on a really exceptional trip recently, to courchevel / chamonix. The snow was just OK but we still managed to hike a bit and get some really fun off-piste and side-country stuff.

They get temperature inversions in the valley a lot, apparently.
Not pictured: the day we almost skiied off a cliff, even with a guide, at Courmayeur because we were doing off-piste in a pea soup cloud.
Ironically I have not made it up to Tahoe yet this year.
