Let's talk about skiing & snowboarding!

Just got back from the Utah trip and it was wonderful, 4 resorts in 4 days. It's amazing how close together everything is!
If you are looking for more ski trip ideas, one you should do that would be a fairly easy drive for you is Whiteface. A very good ski area, but also you can do a bobsled run in Lake Placid, which is a real thrill. You and another rider just sit between driver and brakeman, and clench your orifices.
edit: I just realized they do bobsled rides in the Utah Olympic Park as well, so maybe you just did this!

This looks like a ton of fun! Funny enough we were just talking about a trip to Lake Placid while in Utah. We'll have to check it out if we end up there.

I was staying with a friend in Eagle Mountain the first half, and downtown SLC for the second half of the trip. So we mostly just went up to ski/board, didn't do much else in the ski resort areas.

My dad's boss's husband was skiing. He came to a stop at the bottom of the slope. Two kids rammed into him. He's now paralyzed from the neck down.
Yes, I am a killjoy.

My goal is often to see as much of a place as I can, so big day at Park City!

Beautiful!

Skied at Chamonix in late February. First time back in Europe in >30 years (ah, raising kids?). Absolutely amazing! 6 days skiing, including 2 days guided: the Vallee Blanche and a day off-piste on the the backside of Le Tour. Really great time. I want to go to La Grave next year and probably Deux Alpes.
Chapeau. I've been to Aiguille de Midi in summer. I cannot understand how people have the guts to walk down that snowy (slushy?) ridge even with crampons. If I tried it I would completely freeze.

Hey fellow New Englanders: I was watching the cams at Killington and snow was coming down good most of today. Head to the mountains if you can. We don't often get it this good so late here in the East!

I've been seeing news of some good snow at Jay too, wish I could do some spur of the moment ski trips to the New England area!

I have had some good days end of April then a beautiful closing day for Sugarbush on Sunday. Planning to hit Killington again this Friday. Anyone else still trying to eek out some days on the snow?

Some of us ski down that ridge.

Slowly, it's starting the new ski/snowboard season in the north of the planet. It's time to check equipment and warm up. Here's my video from the spring: I'm trying to conserve the old ski school, from the time when my ski was 2.05 m long, with the extreme short ski of today. My thoughts: the carving style can kill a lot of joy by skiing, it needs more speed, power and craft, but for oldies the old school could be more enjoyable and safety. For all north-hemisphere-people, good start in the winter!

I've been snow boarding twice in The Pyrenees (Andorra) in 2004/5. First time was terrible, it was too warm and boarding is no fun on ice. Second time we had a white out for 2 days, but the powder on the last day was awesome. I'm a bit old for all that now :(

Your cameraman must be a pretty strong skier. I’d crash and wreck the camera and myself.
where was that filmed? My ski skills are low level, but it looks to me like your carving for much of the time. The differences are greater in deep snow, I think.

Thanks, the cameraman was my son with simple iphone from hand in Ischgl(Austria)/Samnaun(Swiss) in March this year.

I started skiing in the Pyrenees (France) using leather boots and wood skis!
Since then I skied many time in the Alps (France) and nowadays around LA where I am living now.
At 60 years old, after Covid and multiple health issues I do not now if I will go skiing again.
Yesterday I saw the white summit of the mountains at Big Bear, and for sure I am dreaming to go back there.

Not this year, just recovering from bilateral calcaneal reduction and fixation. No walking till Xmas, no silly buggers for six months...

Really sorry to hear about that but I'm hoping for a speed recover for you and better health after than before!

Getting excited for the season, places are just opening in Ohio so I've not gotten a chance to go out yet.

We've had the big yearly trip on the books for a while, to Whistler this year. I think none of us have been there yet, and it's been kind of a bucket list place for me. Me and a few others also just fixed plans for heli skiing while there, all of us first timers, also a bucket list kind of thing to do. Super excited for this trip this year!

Now I just need to find time to do a few days around here before we head there. :)

Looks like we've already got some people here doing some epic stuff this year, hut-to-hut trips sounds like fun!
What's everyone else have planned this year?
