Say you purchased a 12" sub with around a 50cm X 50cm top

You can get a stone slab (real or manufactured) of around 60cm X 60cm and place it on top of the subwoofer. This assumed there is no subwoofer driver or ports firing from the top. The keep the stone from moving from vibration and help protect the finish of the top of the subwoofer, you can place a rubber sheet, pieces of bicycle inner tube etc. between the sub top and the stone. The weight of the stone will keep it in place and disguise the sub as a end table etc.

If you want to easily make your creation look more like a table, simply get some edge trim of say 5 to 10cm from a lumber yard. The edge trim has a 90 degree angle and looks like a 90 degree V. Cut the edge trim down to the height of the subwoofer on the four sides and affix the edge trim to each corner with double-sided tape. With the stone top placed on top, the edge trim looks like "table legs" of whatever wood style or color of stain you choose. Most lumber places will also cut the edge trim to whatever size you need so double-sided tape is all you need.

At first glance, it will look like an "end table" if you use light colored edge trim "legs" against a black box background. The stone or wood top can be whatever color you like as the actual sub box actually holds the weight. Fake it until you make it! :D

The above will give you ideas. Stone tops won't hurt the performance of the subwoofer, it actually will help it. No worries about the top resonating with rubber sheeting and a heavy stone sitting on top. If you have someone living with you that does not enjoy the aesthetic of subwoofer boxes--have them pick the stone/wood/ceramic or whatever top to help hide the thing or divert attention to it's true purpose. Throw a plant, pictures or a beer keg on top and your sub will be less noticable.

Hope that helps
