Okay, so I just did the math... It's a little different for me because I earn a bunch of it back (it's work), but a jaw-droppingly large amount.

Over the last decade or so...
- Equator D5 monitors ($300)
- Sennheiser HD201s ($30)
- Lexicon Alpha ($50?)
- Focusrite Saffire 6 USB ($200?)
- Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 ($400?)
- Sennheiser HD280 Pro ($100)
- UA Apollo Twin Duo ($900)
- Audio Technica ATH-M50 (used, $100)
- Audient iD22 (traded for the Apollo Twin and $300, so -$300?)
- Dayton Audio BR-1 kit ($180)
- Crown XLS1000 ($300)
- Focal Alpha 65 pair ($800)
- Adam S3As ($2500 used)
- Focal Shape 65s (traded the Adams for these plus $1200, so... $-1200)
- RME ADI-2 Pro FS ($1500)
- Schiit Modius ($200)
- ART TransX ($500)
- Apogee Rosetta 200 ($400)
- Warm Audio Bus Comp ($600)
- Sennheiser HD6XX ($220)
- Barefoot Footprint 01s ($3100 used)
- Warm WA-87 ($450 used)
- Shure SM57 ($70 used)
So... Doing the math... $11,400 give or take.

It seems I'm in the median USD$5000-10000 range, actually closer to the lower end. Some of my equipment I purchased used and I quoted the used price to me; my speakers are DIY and I probably spend about 1/2 of what I would have spent for commercially finished speakers.

I have deliberately voted one band down in this poll incase the wife reads it and notices it's in dollars and then does a currency conversion.

Its around 3500 dollars making this my most expensive system ever, so much for ASR saving us money! :D

Who cares how much we have spent in the past, in the pre-ASR period.
Important is, how much money you are saving NOW,
that you are opening your eyes and won't buy any snake oil items any more !

I had contacted JTR but couldn't wait the 5-6 months it would have taken for them to manufacture and ship their subs.

Damn, I was thinking of ordering a couple more RS2s, but had no idea the wait was that long. They must be really backed up from COVID.

How do you like Bacch? I've thought about building a separate 2 channel system using that.

I bought most stuff used or on sale, so numbers may be off (and I’ll leave out <$50 gear, like the Blon 03), going in mostly chronological order

  • Sennheiser HD598: $100
  • 1More Triple IEM: $85
  • Klipsch SB1 and center: $75
  • Onkyo AVR: $50
  • Klipsch sub-12: $100
  • Fluance XLBP: $100
  • Monoprice M1060: $200
  • HTD L3 (old gen) bookshelf/center/sub, HTD Middy surrounds, Onkyo AVR: $300
  • Denon 1713 AVR: $100
  • Kanto YU5: $250
  • Mirage 10” sub: $100
  • Buggtussel Amygdala towers: $800
  • Emotiva UPA-2: $175
  • MiniDSP 2x4HD w/ UMIK-1: $300
  • Wharfedale Jade 5 towers: $1400
  • Topping D10: $90
  • ES100: $75
  • Philips Fidelo X2HR: $100
  • PSA S1500: $600
  • Infinity R263/RC263/RS152: $700
So give or take $5700-$5800 pre-tax (maybe around $6000 with tax). I really wanna update my AVR to a Denon 3X00 or 4X00 (one that can handle 4K and supports the Audyssey app), I just really don’t want to buy one new or even refurb, trying to find one ~$300 (found a 3600 local for like $400 and almost pulled the trigger).

Am in UK but will convert to USD

Audiolab 6000 CD transport $500
Topping E30 DAC $150
Philips 22AH280 pre-amp $300
NAD 320BEE (used as power amp only) $130
JM Lab Focal Electra 926 $550

Pre and power amps and the loudspeakers were all bought used.

Total spend over the last 30 years is probably around $20,000 - I have a lot of equipment not in use or in need of repair sat about the place as I do occasionally buy kit out of interest or because I always wanted to try it 'back in the day' but couldn't afford it then.

For a cost of about $1700 the system listed above is pretty capable.

Most of my kit is vintage or used so I say about 2500-5000 real dollars.
Brand new prices, about 10k.

I'm assuming this is over the course of a lifetime, and let just say without this "investment", I'd be living on the 40th floor of my building instead of the 8th.

You would certainly be in better shape.

That's a lot of stairs.

Zero, unless I count my time invested, but that was all for hobby fun.

Used to scour the thrifts, picked up MANY a vintage stereo piece from the late '60s through '70s. You'd be surprised how much folks are willing to pay for them on Craigslist, after a bit of DeOxit on the controls, some Howard's to spruce up the walnut veneer, and a toothbrush to clean up the "silver" faceplates. Highly profitable, until GW set up "shopgoodwill.com", and it all went bye-bye. Profits went into RME DAC, JBL Pro monitors, Raspberry Pi LMS server and Squeezelite touchscreens. Many $$$ left in the vintage gear that remains (yet) unsold, but really can't think of anything else to buy at this point...

If you remove the cost of my iMac then its not much at all compared to many,

Cambridge Audio CXN v2 - £800
KRK Rokit 7 G4 - £350
KRK 10s subwoofer - £350
Isoacoustic ISO speaker/sub stands - £200
Cables for all above £60

Comes to £1760 ish or $2450

If you add in the cost of GIK Acoustic treatment in my room then add another £2000 or $2800 for a total of £3700 or $5250 spent

I can’t count it would be to scary especially if I tally all the equipment I used to own!

The other part of this poll should be how much have you spent on media:
- Vinyl
- CD
- Blu-ray
- SACD
