I thought I would share yet another DIY project that is going to start hopefully next week. I will keep on refreshing this post as we progress further.
It will be a 5.0 system for my neighbor. He already has a sub but that will also be replaced with a DIY Dayton Audio Reference based model (that will be the next project once this one is finished...)
All five speakers will sport a Markaudio CHN110 driver in a sealed box using 21mm plywood with Qtc=0.707 as per the below

The finished speakers will be driven by an entry level Onkyo home theater receiver (HT-R495) using AccuEQ room correction
Measurements will be posted pre and post correction as well

The drivers shall arrive later this week and building the cabinets shall start next week
More to follow

Just to be clear, my neighbor is the carpenter :)
I am offering him my help regarding the design of the speakers and the 'know-how'

Happy to report that we have made further progress!

The first pair got hooked up to my system in my living room and tested with a few songs, see the video recordings here:
There are no filters applied, you just hear the speakers without any type of correction.
I must say I was genuinely suprised how good they sound even without any correction......kind of jaw-dropping actually

A couple of pictures:

The next steps:
- all five speakers will get the finishing touch (leather coating)
- they will be put in place in my neighbor's living room and measured with REW pre and post correction with Audyssey

Stay tuned!

Hi I'm following your project with interest. What software are you using? Thanks

Happy to hear that @hmj! I am using BassBox Pro for all my projects, love it
They sound really nice. I done a similar sim using Speaker Box Enclosure Designer / Calculator on the diy audio and video site. However it calculates a Vb of 13.2 litres, and an Fb of 74.8 Hz?

Each software calculates differently, the values they calculate will depend on many factors such as:
- internal damping is taken into account or not (Qa value and Gamma value)
- what is the QL value (box leakage loss)
- what is the desired Qtc value you are targeting for (the total Q of the system meaning how steep the low end curve will look like - this point alone is a subject that people wrote books about...)

In BassBox Pro actually all the above factors can be set according to your needs

I was aiming for a cabinet width of 20cm and I height of 30cm. Depth is less important. Parameters used were
Vas = 24.7335 lts
fs = 44.1601 Hz
Qts = 0.4172
Qtc = 0.707

Material is 18mm Plywood.

For these parameters Vb would be 8.817 liters and Total Volume is 9.152 liters taking into account the volume of the driver itself and assuming a moderate filling of the box
This would give you 258 x 158 x 224.5 mm of internal box size (just as a possible implementation example)
I hope this helps

That's really kind of you Peter, especially as you have a working pair. Thanks I will play around with those figures. thanks again. Will post up when built also.

They are not 16 liters, they are exactly the same as I told you above, please refer to the very first post in this thread; there you can see a screenshot from BassBox showing the same

Ahh ok. I am thrown out by the dimensions shown of 450 x180x 204.5, which multiplied out gives over 16 ltrs thats all? Probably because I only have a snap shot from the app so trying to interpret the figures.
