The cat had managed to get it under the sub. It came out unscathed. It appears to be some kind of plastic, and so does the place it goes. Oh speaker builders - any glue to seek or avoid?

Thinking about how to hold on to it...

Maybe some not-too-sticky tape, masking maybe, to make a little handle to hold onto the cap while you position it...

Does it cover a hole in the woofer, or is it just decorative? (shows how much I know about cones)

Are you gluing against a little air pressure, or just against its inertia?

---

I suppose it's a hole. And I reinvented a wheel on the tape-handle idea...

From what I can find most manufacturers use cyanoacrylate which is usually called Super Glue.

DIY forums show lots of things work okay. Aleene's tacky glue is touted by many. You find it in fabric stores. Epoxy would work, but epoxy melts some plastics. Rubber cement and contact cement can be used. Some use the perennially tacky gasket sealer type stuff.

I'd probably go with Super Glue or Aleene's. I've used super glue a couple times myself. I used Permatex gasket sealer on a Thiel once because that is what Jim Thiel said to use.

Yeah, glad you found it, that solves one big issue
The thought of Super Glue worries me, I've used it many times and it does have a solvent like action, dissolving many plastic like materials. I do like the Permatex gasket sealer idea, it would give a short bit of working time, but I would lay the speaker on it's back and let the sealer dry for maybe 48 hours before use.

I am pleased that you found it undamaged Seeing that I asked whether you found it I am happy to come in and lend some help. There are pro products for such a repair. The adhesive used to mount the dust cap affects its performance.

The adhesive recommended by JBL is C.P. Moy Co. RS 3087(MOYEN 3087 Adhesive, 1oz. squeeze tube, JBL part number 353196-001. or 3M Scotch Weld Neoprene High Performance Rubber And Gasket Adhesive 1300l.

Speaking of gluing drivers back together Iv not had to stick my Vivid drivers back together for almost a year  some kind of (Vivid Audio) record that.

And that's not because you have been listening to the JBL's a bunch?
