Thinking of adding a Monoprice 887 for more power. Any issues to this setup? Seems the most cost effective solution…

Sure that would work, but a used Magni Heresy will deliver all the power you want on them sometimes $80 on ebay or Mercari. It's transparent too and sometimes they come with cables or free shipping.

If Amir is correct then the Monoprice 887 has less power (SE) in 300ohm than the DX3pro+
Monoprice = 150mW, DX3Pro+ = 257mW.
Of course when you have a balanced cable for the HD6XX you can get 600mW out of the 887.

100mW should be enough for HD6XX (= 120dB peak SPL)

@solderdude OP has a DX3Pro, not the DX3Pro+

Ahhh so the + in the title was not for the DX3pro but was more like an '&' ...

DX3Pro = 123mW so 0.8dB less loud than 887 (in SE mode)
I guess the OP needs more gain rather than more power, unless he listens to peaks beyond 120dB (100dB average is very loud).

I suppose with Amir’s recommended eq settings with -8.5 dB on preamp gain some may want more power-not me though!

You may be correct. I’ve tried streaming Bluetooth and USB PC and neither are as loud/dramatic as my Marantz SR5014. The marantz may have some EQ but I use it in pure direct so I’m at a loss. The DX3pro is WAY cleaner than the Marantz via USB and hi res files.

My unit is the DX3Pro+

Maybe I need to change a setting that I’m unaware of
