i'm really thinking about buying a new avr for black week.
always had yamaha.
at the moment i still have the rx–a3080.
i have my eye on the rx–a8a.
although i'm not sure if you can hear the difference to the rx-a6a at all.
what i never liked about the yamaha until the 3080 was the ypao, which never gave me satisfactory results in my living room.
unfortunately i don't understand things like rew etc. at all, that's all greek to me.
my favourite would be the one–button solution — or whatever comes closest.
but which two features do i really like?
— the dialogue lift
— surround:ai
the dialogue lift is something i wouldn't want to do without.
but can other avr (not from yamaha) do the same or something comparable?
surround:ai is certainly a matter of taste, but for me it's almost always on, with everything that has to do with film or television, and sometimes even with very quiet music.
there seems to me to be little else like it, even the auromatic seems to work differently.
what i also like is that the temperature development with yamaha has always been acceptable, because i always had an additional external amp, the device never got hot and never needed a fan.
an important criterion for me, too.
anyway, which avr would be comparable?
fanless, better calibration system than ypao, dialogue lift (!) - i would probably have to do without surround:ai.
or ypao has made another leap from the 3080 to the a8a.
any experience here?
however, dirac a.r.t. is also slowly coming onto the market, and a new line from yamaha would actually be overdue, given the product cycles to date...
what would you recommend?
my favourite would be a stormaudio, but around 20k (with calibration) is quite a lot, and it doesn't necessarily have to have a waf – and it might be a bit oversized for my living room...
thoughts?
