Jamo Concert 8 speaker......

Seems the comments have quite a few questioning how Danny Measures stuff and if this speaker/Tweeter is indeed maybe defective or out of the ordinary.

He is getting measurements that do not match some magazine reviews measurements from the time, but is insisting he is of course "Right".......hmmm

I have no problem trusting Danny. Especially when he proves the guts of these speakers are made of the cheapest junk and the proper parts hardly cost a few dollars more. I have no sympathy, whatsoever for Corporate Agenda antics, fraud and dishonesty and I am very grateful for GR Research pulling the wool out of our oversold eyes. The magazines are nothing but sales ads, pushing the same stuff from their own country.
It's exciting to hear Danny expose the truth. I can't wait until I can afford the Bully's.

I have no sympathy, whatsoever for ... fraud and dishonesty ...

We have something in common there.

Danny needs to dismantle the tweeter, clean out the dried ferrofluid from the VC and the gap, replace with new ferrofluid and retest.

Oh, and then do a whole new apology video.

LOL!

Yep very likely this is the case here:

Could you please give a hint if this is serious or satire?

The "cheap junk" hardly ever make any audible difference.

I would respect the man if he simply made these "upgrades" to increase the longevity of the crossovers, but instead it's all about this ever-present myth saying that there's some aetherial but highly noticeable improvement in sound quality when you use more expensive components. Not only that, but electronic components in audio gear also seem to break the laws of physics by completely eliminating the concept of a point of diminishing returns. More expensive means better sound, always!

One thing I’ve noticed about Danny’s reworked crossover designs is that the horizontal off-axis very often builds a peak around the crossover region at the expense of a much improved in-axis response.

There’s much I like about Danny’s speaker design ethos but it’s so often undermined by his snake oil salesmanship to push his own products.

The last Jamo video also highlighted what appears to be a lack of due diligence in checking if the tweeter was performing as it should. Did he measure both units?

If the tweeter was faulty and Danny apologises I will eat all of our hats.

I haven't pulled that particular Jamo Concert 8 tweeter apart, but plenty of Jamos from that era (including most of my Jamos- I really like the brand) have ferrofluid in the gaps. When it dries out, the tweeter basically drops in level to the point you wonder if it's still working at HF!

A bit of effort and it's like a brand new tweeter.

Did he measure both units?

They would both likely perform in similar manner. The Concert 8 is ~20 years old and the ferrofluid would be a dark, sticky, dried out mass.

My Jamo 507a's were the same.

I am just pleased that Danny is now paying more attention to personal hygiene.

I think you miss the point entirely.

Not a matter of Trust, but a matter of, his findings not matching what others heard of this speaker, or what it measured in a few well respected reviews of the day, AND of the measurements of SEAS for this actual tweeter driver.

His measurements of the bare drivers sans crossover DO NOT match the specs or response SEAS has on their site, but Danny himself claims they are nearly identical when they are not.

Can you address that actual point, instead of going off on a tangent.

Here is the actual tweeter in question.

SEAS has a totally different response than Danny is showing when later in the video he shows just the drivers response without crossover.
I am in this for pure technical reasons, could not care less about his practices or person stuff about this guy, I just like to see the measurements and so on.

When he shows a strong roll off around 9khz and above it contradicts what other people and SEAS have gotten.
