Ooo ... what happened to that GR thread?

Yup- basically we dont want people making the membership having to click the YT link to watch to find out why OP is drawing our attention to it. The very definition of clickbait.

If the post is just to get people to mock the YT content we dont want it anyway. If there is something meaningful to discuss mentioned in there- give a short summary of that point and a time stamp.

This isnt about links to music, content that is self explanatory etc but if you are linking to a 20 min YT vid about audio we need a lot more than " I found this interesting" or " he's at it again"
I am pleased to see this has become a site policy.

Which reminds me.... I think the Terms and Rules page needs to have some of these policies added, so they can all be seen together in a bunch. Maybe under a subheading on Posting Rules.

The T&R page already mentions the ban on religion or politics, but it doesn't mention the ban on discussing environmental issues that seems to include global warming, or the 'looks like clickbait' rule that you outline here.

I get the impression that some position on the use of AI bots to answer questions (or provide summaries) is emerging? That could go under Posting Rules too.

And the ban on posting full transcripts of videos. (I saw a recent attempt to post an AI bot summary of a video that was longer than the whole transcript, so that's not right either).

cheers

We already had a term that indicated we don't tolerate repeated links to commercialized videos. I added the second paragraph to it just now: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?help/terms/

"Please do not link to monetized content (text or video) too often. We reserve the right to remove such links as ASR is not in the business of promoting commercialized content.

Related, any video posted needs to have text explaining the reason for such posting (exception, music and entertainment videos). If such reasoning is not included, the posting/thread is subject to deletion."

Why not just take a screenshot of the video with title ... either the beginning or the pertinent part. That way, everyone knows what to look for if they're interested, but there's no active hyperlink to perform the clickbait function.

q.v. ...

Cheap Amp Destroys Most “Audiophile Amps”?! (silly clickbait title) by New Record Day.

Just use Get Screenshots from YouTube Videos

You can add a synopsis, as little or as much as you wish. :)

Someone is going to be clicking furiously on the 'play' control and complaining when it doesn't work. Sorry, but I have to scrub down now after posting that pic.

When you find the original video, just click on it to get it started and then hit "pause", and the resultant screenshot will NOT have the play control.

For clarity, I suggest copying the title below the screen and pasting it, because that will be easier for someone who is interested in the video to copy and paste themselves.

And I completely understand needing to scrub down after making access to one of Danny's videos easy. Now where's my soap ..... ? :D

Windows + Shift + S on PC. You can then directly paste it into forums etc.

Your phone should have a screenshot function and you can easily trim it.

No need for website loading and copying links etc :)

Please don't. These screen snapshots take a lot of storage as they are stored losslessly. Our server runs on SSD storage so bits are expensive.

Amir, I have been asking people to upload .MDAT's into ASR as ZIP files. Do you think we should be asking them to host the ZIP files on something like Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. instead?

If the files are less than 100K bytes, including them is fine. When we get into megabytes, it would be nice to host them externally. On Windows, it is easy to use Onedrive and then get a share link from it.

The drawback of external shares is that years from now, the link targets may disappear, leaving people wondering what was there.
