How do classic Marantz and Citation compare to modern equipment for roughly the same price? Asking in other fora as well

OP here--Marantz 7C, 8B, and 9; Citation II. No thoughts on modern--happy for input.

These are before my time so I'm posting relevant info and take it from there.

The model numbers he plucked out of the air are expensive collector pieces. Often done by people running scams like "is my grandpa's old stereo any good" and "is this worth any money?"

If you look at the modern Marantz integrated every generation is better.

If you look at a thoughtful restoration of the JBL SA 600 you can see where technology started.

I like my tube amps and it is likely that vintage tube amps and modern tube amps perform very similarly if in similar condition

I would much rather buy

Over a Model 10 or PM-10 though

The irony is that the Marantz 7C is a very mediocre preamp. The Citation II is an excellent design. Marantz 8B is very good, basically a Mullard circuit.

Technologically, about the same as a 1950s or 60 car compares to a modern one.
And like cars they have their attraction from a nostalgic view, but on a actual performance level, there's just no comparison.
They belong in a museum.

OP here again. I did not pluck these out of the air. I plucked them out of my memory. I couldn't afford them when new and was wondering how they hold up now (for sound, not cost).

The only one of them I have a lot of experience with is the 8B. I think it is a very fine amplifier indeed, and I was tickled to read @SIY's comments about the Citation II and the 8B. FWIW, in my limited experience, I agree with him vis-a-vis the 7C. That said, the 7C sure is aesthetically pleasing. :)
