Drive noise from modern multiplayers?

Do modern multiplayers like Oppo produce louder drive noises than classic CD players? My Philips from the 1980s (Redbook CD only) is dead quiet in comparison. I recently had an SACD player with an Oppo drive here, and the spinning was clearly audible. Is that to be expected?

Well, yes. And it's quite likely it is because of the drive speed (RPM) of multiplayers being much higher than the typical 1x of traditional redbook audio CD player.
