you're paying a lot of money for a HP amp that you may not need
Fosi is actually making a balanced preamp but I think progress has stalled due to their release of the ZA3 matching power amp.
BUt yeah... $600 for the kara seems to be it so far. Wish there was better hunting but no one seems to care bout this slice of the market.

Extremely Transarent and inexpnsive JDS Lab Atom 2 Headphones amplifierr. It has Pre output , excellent performance, reliability . it is downright cheap. Around $125.oo.
One of the best headphones amp as well as one of the most powerful (over 2.6 Watts @ 32 ohms. See ASR Review Here
no XLR however.
