Budget Amp With High Pass Filter

The high pass filter is for powered speakers?
Even this one has one (although limited to 90 hz).:

This is a good feature for you to implement in upcoming models (a small knob in the back with frequency selection that would allow to select a common point of both high pass filter to the speakers and low pass filter to the sub) - this is what the sabaj a30a has (although in the digital realm), i guess your pffb ones could have this. :)
You already have in some units bot only for the low pass, this time it would regulate the high pass also.

Another recent entry with a crossover in an inexpensive integrated amp is the Wiim Amp.

Most cheap AVRs will give you around 70W + crossover + sub out. Best to use analog input on those though.

Eh? What does analog input have to do with it particularly?

I have preferred the analog inputs vs internal streaming or optical inputs as I found using an external DAC to be more cleaner sound.

How did you do that particularly? Good level matched blinded testing or just some poor casual comparison?

The rhino in the hallway.

An analogue crossover is always in danger of adding at least some distortion to the signal. The WiiM applies the HP and LP filters in the digital domain, which bypasses this possibility (see Amir’s recent test showing the EQ had no impact on performance).

The issue with just having a DAC with this built in is if you don’t use, or intend to use the DAC’s volume control. Because that results in you turning up your amp increases/decreases the volume on the mains but not the sub.

So the best solution is a DAC/pre amp with a sub out, or an all-in-one like the WiiM Amp.

How long until the WiiM Ultra is released? If they get it right, it’s going to clean up.

Looks like the Douk Audio A5 has been released.

Does the "aux out" port still deliver full frequency response, regardless what you set the high pass filter knob to?

So apparently, the "aux out" is fixed and not variable? Who thought that was a good idea? If you go through the trouble of offering a high pass filter for your mains, then you should also provide a proper variable "subwoofer out" to complement those high passed mains.

Wow! Is the Douk A5 the budget amp dream come true? PFFB, AUX AND HPF???

I can accept no LPF on the AUX out since most active subs already have one.

I hope they come out with a integrated version with USB/SPDIF input, variable sub out and remote. Basically like the Loxjie A30 but with PFFB and HPF

The aux out on the Douk A5 is variable
Thanks. Cheapaudioman posted a video of the A5 a few days ago and stated that it was fixed. Not sure who's right.

One issue I see here, unless I'm mistaken. You're setting the filter on your amp manually, using a rotary knob, with no calibration marks between minimum and maximum. In other words, if you want to set it at 80Hz or 85Hz or 90Hz, you're just guessing. Ditto with the sub.

This can't possibly be as accurate as a digital crossover.

I’ve owned the A5 for six days now….the Aux out is definitely variable. I’ve noticed a trend with some of the YouTubers, some of the cheap ones and some of the older ones having inaccuracies in their reviews…their videos are clearly rushed with a priority of getting the video published quickly.

Here’s a brief initial impression:
No measurements....but I do own a lot (eight or so) under $100 amplifiers.

Must say; I'm impressed with this one. It feels high quality in hand.....has heft to it even with its small size.
I've never "upgraded" the power supplies or op amp chips with any of these cheap amplifiers; but this one performs really well out of the box. Some of these cheaper amps seem to prefer a higher RCA line pre gain than standard; and some of these low cost amps sound a bit thin.....this one works well right out of the box......haven't felt the need to boost the power supply or add an RCA line level booster.

The A5 is my first one with PFFB; so I don't know if it's that technology making the difference.

The easily accessible OP amps is a nice feature I will likely never use; but could see how others would enjoy the simplicity of OP amp rolling.

The high pass filter is the primary reason I purchased and PFFB for under $100 made it irresistible....wish the HPF was also demarcated at 80, 100, and 120 Hz.

To clarify; the aux out is variable full range out…it is not affected by the high pass filter…which is my preference as this gives me the versatility to use this amp with a sub or a center channel. I like the flexibility of using separate amps with their own specific features….low pass and/or high pass filters or tone controls/etc depending on the specific utility of the speaker(s) I’ll be driving.
