Beyerdynamic T1 Review (V2 headphone)

Thank you for the hint. The German BD page has no part with this numbe, others I could find, are also faux leather.
As long as the old headband is "physically intact", I'll simply continue to use it, and when it is, either visit a bike shop or a local shoemaker

And yes, faux leather and possibly again not very durable. Still, for 15 Euro the price seems ok to me for maybe five years of use.

Since the damaged headband has a "carrying layer" under the first one that came off, I speculate on it lasting several years before it will tear and need replacement. The little mystery remains, why the other, visually identical headband is unaffected.

Dug my pair of these out after a couple of years of exile in the cupboard of doom.

Changed my set up since and didnt have an EQ profile to apply from previously so started from scratch.

Without EQ these sound like utter shite. Boxy, sucked out vocals etc etc

After some EQ these are actually very nice. Light and very comfy. Sound pretty damn good. Worth the RRP? Hell no. Competitive in today's market? Hell no. I suspect if anyone wants the classic 20XX Beyer experience they should get the DT880 in a deal off Amazon rather than these second hand.

But can I say I am not having a good listen? No!

Need an amplifier for those, such as Beyer A1 or SPL amps specific for high impedance, with weak amps they sounds boxy, same happens with the DT880 that is even harder than T1 to drive.
With beyerdynamic A1 are terrific.

The Beyerdynamic A1 has 100Ω output impedance, which will boost the bass response of Beyerdynamic's high impedance headphones.

It's a built-in EQ basically, that's why it sounds different.

The Amplifier itself really isn't that powerful.

A basic, budget headphone Amp like the Schiit Magni or Topping L30II has more output power at high impedances than the A1, at a fraction of the cost.

And in contrast to the A1, these will give you the headphones' inherent frequency response without any trickery.

I didn't try the two amps you mentioned, but I tried a lot of amplifiers declaring several watt of power and some very expensive (e.g. Phonitor2), the A1 is the best for my ears.
The second choice is the Spl Auditor, very cheap and still I have, but to my ears is little less refine than A1 with T1, instead I find the old Auditor very very good with the dt880 600 ohm that is way heavier to drive than the T1.
Auditor is good with other headphones lower impedance too, instead i don't like the A1 with any other of my cans (at least not first preference), clearly was made for the T1, if this is technical trickery: I love it!

3 years from this review, I continue to enjoy my Beyerdynamic T1's Gen 2 immensely. I have a ton of high end headphones from every manufacturer. These are easily among the best of the bunch. This review is different from many others that praise these headphones. I used reviews from What Hifi and Head-Fi in my decision to purchase these, along with a number of other positive reviews from trusted sources. All gave glowing reviews and I bought them. I agree with them as these are fantastic headphones. Sometimes we need to stop testing the crap out of everything, most of the data is meaningless and usually inaudible. Biggest disappointment I have in my headphone collection are the Sennheiser 600, 650, and 660s yet people praise these to no end. Ironically I have the 620s as well but I do actually like these closed back. Headphones are like wine, personal taste. No shortage of people out there reviewing wine and trashing a bottle while another says it is the best thing since sliced bread. Sometimes we just need to throw testing and the paperwork out the window and just listen to and enjoy the music.

If that's what you need to tell yourself, that's fine. Everyone here is happy you are enjoying them and you don't need to apologize for that, ever, but don't expect us to take those types of uncritical comments seriously. We are allowed to take engineering seriously here so no need to tell us to turn off our brains. (Also, those were my headphones that were measured and they were garbage to me. Can you see now how random anecdotes are worthless? How does my opinion help? Does mine cancel yours out?)

May I ask your age? Looks like you may have some hearing loss between 6000-12000Hz and T1 v2 has about 5-6db boost there and dip around 5000Hz (Sennheiser 600/650 has about 3-4db peak between 3000-5500Hz followed by 6000-8000Hz dip).
