It is doing fine! Yes, storing the CDP-101 untouched for 31 years did not prevent the grease to gum up.
So after about 1 month the opamps the tray and tracking / focus died. As it is a known problem,
there was no problem to replace them with LA6510 substitutes, see images.
(And yes, the heatsinks do not touch anything!)
No need to realign.
But I'll have to redo it with the second CDP-101 I bought recently.
This is the good thing: The opamps will die way before the lasers and many sellers do not know...
Did you recheck the scratches? Again, a single one-point light has to be shone on the area or a bright light like
a window needs to be reflected. Would be interesting to find out whether european are only affected...
