I recently discovered this piece of hardware sold by Acourate, the well-known company that makes the audio toolbox used to create state-of-the-art DSP filters.

I can't understand exactly how it works, but I believe the concept is to equalize the distortions between the left and right channels, in order to reduce unwanted interaural discrepancy and so improving the stereo image.
This seems to be done encoding the signal in M-S before DAC, and then decoding it in L-R through this piece of hardware.

Can anyone say something about it?

Would there be any way to measure the benefits?

Are there other pieces of hardware that do the same thing, or other methods of achieving the same result?
