In 2017, Germany had 28031 ICU beds in hospitals. For a population of 83 million, that makes 33.8 ICU beds per 100k.

Per capita health care cost in 2017 was 4544€ or $4908 (as of today).

Life expectancy (at birth) in 2017 was 81.1 years.

The true problem or mistake is that the Spanish government had two WHO reports at the end of January and another from a Spanish Center warning that arrival was inevitable. They wasted those weeks to buy protection material and to create more ICUs, and to order their national production. There is serious criminal negligence, both of the central government and of all the autonomous governments, since Health has been transferred for decades.

España solicita ayuda a la OTAN para responder a la emergencia del coronavirus

Spain requests help from NATO to respond to the coronavirus emergency
https://translate.google.es/transla...er-emergencia-coronavirus-20200324152112.html

[ NATO has received a request from the Spanish Armed Forces to receive international assistance to deal with the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. As reported by the Atlantic Alliance, its Disaster Response Coordination Center (EADRCC, for its acronym in English) has registered this Tuesday a request from the Spanish Armed Forces.

For this reason, NATO asks international partners to respond to the request of the Ministry of Defense and to send humanitarian assistance to stop the virus among the military units and in the civilian population in general. The Armed Forces are developing a mission to protect the civilian population and mitigate the spread of the virus in Spain. ]

El día crítico para un enfermo es el octavo desde que aparecen síntomas
[Spanish] https://www.lavanguardia.com/vida/2...tavo-desde-aparecen-sintomas-coronavirus.html

The critical day for a patient is the eighth since symptoms appear
https://translate.google.es/translate?sl=es&tl=en&u=https://www.lavanguardia.com/vida/20200324/4874369602/dia-critico-enfermo-octavo-desde-aparecen-sintomas-coronavirus.html

[ The eighth day of illness (since the first symptoms appear) seems to be a turning point in which the health of the person affected by the coronavirus changes dramatically: most recover, even to go home or to another center to finish confinement. But between 15% and 20% suffer from a dramatic inflammation of their lungs and their health deteriorates, which can lead to intensive care.

That is the experience of the Clinic [Hospital] infection team led by Àlex Soriano. It was the hospital in charge of the timid start of the pandemic. Now they have hundreds of patients with different degrees of difficulty and every day they learn and know more about this new disease. But that inflammation is still the difficult stage for now... ]

all countries are repeating one after the other the same mistakes.
In Italy, the first closed areas in the north of Lombardy drove away what could have been an already infected population to the south, which until then had been spared. ...

The same happened in France with the Parisians. (very affected areas) to areas that had been spared in the south.

for the united states, for the most affected areas new york / los angeles / seattle it will certainly happen the same thing.

remember how the chinese have completely locked hu han at the beginning of the pandemic?

edit .....india has just ordered the total confinement of the population

In the Netherlands, after yesterday's drop, infections and deaths are unfortunately up again today. The experts say we have to wait for the weekend to see any improvements. In the meantime, it is a quiet life. We have been ordered to work from home where possible, and maintain social distance. Many businesses are still open, and we are encouraged to go out for a walk or a bicycle ride - provided we keep our distances. Car traffic is down enormously, which is a joy with much less noise and pollution.

Quieter today when we ventured out for a needed food shop and even toilet rolls are starting to appear again, albeit in small carefully rationed quantities. Madness at the weekend here with day trippers flooding to the beach while locals looked on in horror. The UK may still have a tiny bit of war-spirit left in the more elderly population, but younger people don't always seem to give a stuff until they're basically ordered to do something upon which they whinge like crazy. I'm an oldie now, so can say these things but still not sure my post-hippy late-boomer generation were quite this self entitled when we were growing up.

It's slowing down. Certainly not exponential which was a lot of people feared. And remember a LOT more people are getting tested in the US now:
https://coronavirus.1point3acres.com/en
No evidence for slowing - requires multiple days in a row of declining new cases to say that, and in many parts of the US the new reported cases are apparently slowing because they have to narrow test criteria due to a shortage of supplies; lab testing capacity is getting saturated; and many labs don’t report any results on weekends, leading to false dips at a certain point each week.

España tendría ya más de medio millón de infectados: éste el modelo estadístico que lo sugiere
[Spanish] https://www.elespanol.com/ciencia/s...s-modelo-estadistico-sugiere/476954002_0.html

Spain would already have more than half a million infected: this is the statistical model that suggests it
https://translate.google.es/translate?sl=es&tl=en&u=https://www.elespanol.com/ciencia/salud/20200324/espana-medio-millon-infectados-modelo-estadistico-sugiere/476954002_0.html
My simple rule of thumb is look at the daily deaths, divide by your guess at the true mortality rate (1.8%?) and that tells you the actual number of cases 12 days ago. Then extrapolate a reasonable growth rate. So, my math is as follows: Deaths Mar 23 = 529/1.8% = 29,400 cases on Mar 11. 29.4x1.15^12 = 157k actual cases in Span (not 40k as reported). If growth rate is 20% then 262k.

I just saw the Netti pot posts. AVOID using them if there was any chance of exposure in the last 2 weeks.

Any virions in the outer part of the nostril will be driven deep into the sinuses!

Without sufficient protection material for the criminal negligence of those responsible for the different Spanish public administrations.
