New Caledonia, is a French Island, near Australia.

That’s what I thought, too. One of our local mobile phone carriers (Telstra) doesn’t seem to think so, when it comes to international data roaming. Even though France is listed among the countries in which their “international day pass” applies (1GB per day for $10 flat), they charged us international roaming rates (many times more) in New Caledonia. To their credit, they refunded me when I complained.

When I worked for an American company as their European Office, we had constant arguements over who should get credit for sales to French Overseas territories, which as far as the French are concerned are France. St Pierre et Miquelon and Martinique being particular irritants.

So, we had some rain today.
Some of the local streams decided to go rogue.
Looky at this (erstwhile) town road.
That divot on the right is about 5 or 6 feet deep.

Regardless, cheap Australian beer is still better than American beer which tastes like beer flavoured carbonated cordial.
You need to stop hanging around redneck bars ;)

When she arrived by plane in the USA when she was around 30 years old, a journalist in the airport asked her : "what was the best day of your life ?" she answered : "it was a night" !

Is that a turkey or an emu? A caudally-challenged turkey we've been seeing lately.

Fortunately, her tail does appear to be growing back.

Mrs. H also reports having seen her on the wing, so she can fly -- no photos, though, sorry. ;)

First fawn I've seen this season -- espied moments ago.

But wait, there's more.

... and some drama, too.

"Dude -- don't mess with my kid!"
Apparently, a momma bear's got nothin' on a momma deer when it comes to protecting the kid(s).

Freaking Wild Kingdom right out in the backyard at lunch time. :)

Awwww!
I used to tell people "Hey, if you don't like the North-East's 4-season hardships; move!"
I practiced what I preached and now I have to endure an entire set of new hardships of the Left-Coast beach living.
But weather is NOT one of those hardship... as long as you don't mind the sun, the salt-air, and the sand... sand everywhere!

We did the Left Coast thing for a couple of years -- not our cuppa chai. ;)

Don't forget to stop and smell the flowers:
Actually the squirrel was eating the flower.
I see your squirrel and raise you another (from our local Agnes family).

<< This morning
The Agnes family is our morning visitors, and if they don't get their fair share of peanuts on a schedule; they will sit cackling inside this Melaleuca tree (commonly called 'paperbark' in Hawai'i, also aka 'cajeput').;)
