I had primarily been using Dolby 's Upmixer (DSU) on my Yamaha CX-A5200 for upmixing stereo music sources to 5.2.4. I also used DSU on my Sony AZ5000ES in a second rig

More recently, I started exploring Yamaha's home grown upmixers such as Standard, Enhanced, Music Video, etc and I seem to like these upmixers better than DSU or Neural X for different genres of music. The home grown upmixers sound amazing.

I almost wonder why manufacturers are spending on these Dolby, DTS, Auro licenses when they can do a better job on their own with their home grown tools. Any one else use the proprietary upmixers offered by their brand of choice? What are you all using?

If you are into the 'stereo should be played in stereo mode only' orthodoxy, maybe, this is not the thread for you. I have been there, done that, and upmixed music simply feels more enjoyable to me. I don't need another lecture on the never ending beauty of stereo, going on strong for 70 years.

I am just wanting to hear about experiences from guys who use the different upmixers on stereo sources for music and what upmixer they may prefer.

I am using Jriver's built-in upmixer
There are some tracks that sound jaw-dropping when upmixed from stereo to multichannel
I believe that the future is definitely in multichannel, even for music - I am not sure however if/when it will happen :)

I use Auro 3d’s auromatic up mixer to create a nice front wall of sound from PCM feeds from Roon. I use Front Heights about 5 feet over the LR. Auromatic presents a slight hall ambiance from the surrounds, rear surrounds. But it sums the bass from all channels to create a warmer sound.

If it's not troubling, would you please kindly describe more about your setup, Sir? Do you use External Stereo DAC ?

The reason I'm asking since I want to set a gaming PC room for me and my kids - which most likely the reliable sound would be in stereo - but I intend to use AVR With Auro 3d auromatic for near field solo - three audience upmixing.

Thank you.

I use a Roon nucleus to Roon ready trinnov 16.

So far, Harman/Lexicon Logic 7

I love DPLIIx but from what I have come to understand, L7 is the benchmark and reference due its refined approach and steering algorithms,
