Hi all,
I recently adding a single surround back speaker and went from 5.2.4 to 6.2.4.
My pre-pro, Yamaha CX-A5200, permits the configuration of a single surround back speaker.

The DTS Neural X upmixer will provide output on the single surround back when stereo sources are upmixed.

The Dolby DSU upmixer will not provide output to the single surround back speaker configuration when stereo sources are upmixed.

Why is Dolby being goofier than DTS here? Anyone else ran into such an issue or found a workaround? Or could anyone else with a 7.2.2 or 7.2.4 momentarily set your config to 6.2.2 or 6.2.4 and see what the respective upmixers do?

Thanks,

Here are the configuration options on the pre-pro's manual

@multichannel_guy I think I have the answer to this, the Yamaha CX-A5200 simply has Dolby's older Atmos/DSU decoder version SDK, most likely v1.3, it was v1.6.2 that Dolby introduced Front Wides & Mono Surround (6.1) support, it appears you're out of luck.

Hello.
Have you tried to use 7.1.4 etc whilst put those Surround Back Left and Right Speakers closer to each other? Like almost side-by-side.
I watched Anthony Grimani presentation about his thoughts regarding back surrounds position. I tried it and it's not dissopointing.

Hope you found your solution already.
Enjoy.

Issue is I only have a single surround back speaker, it is a discontinued model and can't get another one.
I've primarily been using yamaha's native dsp upmixers and neural X. DSU still won't work.
