Can you post a screenshot from MusicCast showing subwoofer options related to the R-N803?
Everybody’s just telling me to read more…

I don't have it but because I was interested in it so I read a lot about it when it was reviewed. The R-N803 is compatible with MusicCast for sure.

Someone on audioholic.com posted some screenshots:
May be you did something wrong in your set up (either or both YPAO and Musicast)

M Code also confirmed it can be done:

If you still can't get it done, you should contact Yamaha, and/or PM larryincmh and see if he can help you on this.

OK! Progress. So there are several factors at play here… I’ll start with my mistake which was this… I needed to have YPAO not only turned on, but go through the set up process, if you don’t, the subwoofer information and filters will not show up. (very different from the WXC – 50 that I also own) Initially I had the ypao slider to the “on“ position… But since it wasn’t set up, it effectively was off.

I was given some misinformation indicating that the subwoofer crossover is fixed at 90 Hz, it is not fixed. It is adjustable from 40 to 200 Hz

I was told the level is not adjustable, it is. Although, the subwoofer level slider does not appear in the same way that it does for my WXC… on the WXC, you just touch the three little EQ slider button and it’s there, with the 803 you must go into the room settings.

Thank you to everyone that spent time helping me with this! I no longer regret this purchase… But I still find it strange that you have to go through the YPAO set up process to get the subwoofer information to appear, and it’s hidden deeper in the MusicCast app than it is for something like the WXC…

Looking forward to getting this system done!

I have Firmware 3.00 on my unit. When I push the Connect button and add it to the MusicCast app, everything works fine, but I cannot see it on other devices running the MusicCast app. When I add it on the second iOS device, it disappears on the first device - can anyone else confirm this?
(My CRX-N470D can be controlled from multiple devices without problems.)

For SNR, that's a little quieter than the D+M AVRs but it most likely will be nowhere near as good as a good preamp.

Denon/Marantz AVRs:

That's what the Cambridge Alva Duo is for!

RIAA CURVE ACCURACY +/- 0.3dB 30Hz-50Hz

just registered here to say that this thread is what convinced me to buy the N803 over the S801. I was able to find a new one in the states. paid full price though.

wow! I've got to say the network features really make this easy. I put Michael Jackson Thriller in 24bit/96kHz on my NAS and the Yamaha found it easily.

I still have a question though. How do I display the bitrate of the songs?

[UPDATE]

figured it out. I have to use the musicast app to see the bitrate and sampling frequency

It's displayed in MusicCast app, you can do it with remote - options - signal info to see it on unit display.

Hi guys,
I've recently purchased this amp, and I'm having some speakers custom-built. There will be a 3-way design with a couple of 8-inch woofers running parallel at 4ohms plus and a mid & tweeter. I wish I could understand these charts, but is it true that this amp performs better at the 4ohm setting (rather than 8ohm) in terms of noise & distortion?

Fair enough I didn't realize you didn't have a computer, and I had issues (stuttering and dropouts) with qobuz streaming 24/96 to CCA, until I added roon (at an additional cost of course).
exactly my experience. Got into roon for the streaming robustness and stayed there becuase of dsp. Although the roon interface drives me mad.

Nope it's pretty much other way around. Future more AB (Sunken transistor pairs) class Yamahas aren't really made for lo impedance loads so even RN803 has a 4 Ohm's back switch (which really is more of a gimmick) and dumping factor of 256 or more I wouldn't advise to go with anything that deeps under 4 Ohm's with it.
Don't make a 2.5 way speakers!
If you insist on making (three way) speakers your self see how those suits you:
If not take a look at ELAC DBR62.

Hello everybody.
I have a really entry-level config.
I use Roon on a Nuc (local files and Qobuz), to the amp's dac via a Hecate Armature usb/rca interface, then Focal Chorus 706 speakers.
Everything works fine, but is the dac still in the race with high resolution files ?
I wanted to know if it was worth upgrading and investing in a new dac like Topping D50S or Ifi Zen Dac V2?
Thank you for your answers.

The dac is 192/24 capable so you are ok. But take into consideration that the jump from CD quaaluty to 192/24 is not great or is inaudible, so you are more than ok.
Unless you want room correction, which make a BIG difference in sound most of the time.
Also you should have posted this in the correct part of the forum :)

Ok, thanks for the response. :)
Sorry for not having posted in the correct part of the forum, I thought it was more sensible here, since it concerns the RN803 for a possible upgrade.

Room correction is a gamechanger, much more useful and audible than DAC change.
I see no point in adding DAC.
Only speaker upgrade is rational, in my opinion.

I own a pair of elac dbr62 speakers connected to Yamaha rn803, what is the right impedance for these speakers to be set on the amplifier? Thanks for your help .

I would run the Yamaha switch at the 8 Ohm setting. Then Yamaha should have no issue with this as the Elac is 6 Ohm nominal and has a low impedance of ~5 Ohms.
