What headphone(s) do you own ?

Reasonably priced and the knock off lemo connectors have been great.

Audiophile Ninja. He makes some nice-looking cables.
I like his brand image.

I love mine too!

Contrary to many people out there, I actually like the Stock Hifiman cables as well :)

The knockoff Lemo connectors are superb quality now. Indistinguishable from the pukka items. Under a microscope even the machining of the internal collets looks exactly the same.
I also noticed it's difficult to find a knockoff pair nowadays for under €30. Probably recouping the cost of improved tooling/ manufacturing techniques.
The black ones below are knockoffs, the silver ones are the real deal and the customer wanted proof of purchase from RS. Now that's what I call an 'exacting level of requirement'. Of course I obliged!

Still a bugger to terminate though >.<

@ChrisCables I have a HD545 too but measures a little differently to @solderdude 's. It is dark blue rather than grey and has no rear foam damping as it had perished, but has a black paper screen like his.

The rear grille does influence the frequency response which is unusual. I've seen a narrow dip at ~4kHz in some HD580 measurements which has a similar grille pattern. HD565 is probably better in this regard due to having a metal grille more like HD600/650.

3rd party pads work ok but still ends up losing treble and bass. I actually don't mind the sound with the 3rd party pads and a bass boost.

HD545 damping comp.jpg

Rear damping brings down mid-bass as expected. Wouldn't recommend adding foam damping with 3rd party pads as the bass loss is already severe.

n.b. I realised afterwards I might be getting that 4kHz dip from the grille due to having no rear foam damping but haven't tested with foam + grille to be sure. Would explain why solderdude's doesn't demonstrate that effect.

The plastic headband is slightly longer and much less stiff than my HD6XX. It is quite stretched out so has much less pressure on my head. This may contribute to the lesser bass. Gives the psychological effect of sounding a bit more open I think due to less feeling of something on your head.

My 545 were measured after I restored it, refoamed everything and fitted new pads.

Interesting. What measuring equipment are you using?

I find all of the individual components can have a distinct effect on SS across the entire model range but by far the most significant are the small foam discs/foam pieces at the rear of the driver.
I also placed shaped foam pieces in those small voids at the bottom of each driver housing and noticed some sonic differences.
That chassis design is also pretty significant in itself - I have 'proper' original HD600's and HD650's and I have two HD565 chassis each re-fitted with HD600 and HD650 drivers with the metal baffles. The differences between each are pretty interesting. I think I wrote about it a while back somewhere on head *kof* fi.

The most recent HD545 I received had been refurbished and re-fitted with HD600 paper-baffle drivers so I'm really keen to do some ABX with those and my HD565/600 Frankenheisers. But I've been a bit busy with lots of orders for shhhh ....braided cables.... and simply haven't had time yet. lol

I also notice differences across the various HD565's having the same components and pads. Whether this originated at the time of build at different phases of the production run or over time due to some sort of ageing process is anyone's guess really but the 565 is the most underrated headphone on the planet afaiac. It has it's own unique SS which is markedly different to the other HD5** models.

I added Focal Elegia to my collection. They weren’t very impressive out of box with SE connection. I added Dekoni pads and a 4.4 cable that I had waiting….. and wow. Completely different headphone! They are fantastic! They have mostly demoted my new DCA Noire…. but mainly because they are easier to drive off of my Fiio M17. The Noire blows them away in comfort and I love them but the Elegia is just amazing off the M17! Best head[hone value going at $250 open box. Nothing else comes close for the money….. as far as I know.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD650 headphones that I scored off craigslist for a very good price. I am very happy with them, had them for about 2 and a half years now.
Before that I had a pair of Grado SR 225 'phones with upgraded cushier earpads. I gave those to a buddy of mine. Those also sounded quite nice, just not as comfortable on my head.

Good evening PSTime everyone. I recently acquired a JBL Tune500bt headset paired with an (EQ'd, Dolby Atmos - Android) and in comparison from what was in use prior must honestly admit it has been a vast improvement. Looking forward on learning more about headphones and their various configurations from other members with experience as I follow along.

Cheers

Just curious ...
What headphone(s) do you currently own ?
Which one(s) is(are) used the most, or is your favorite ?
I have 5 pairs of old Sennheiser HD 202s, but I don't use them for serious listening. Though they do have nice sounding bass. They're for multitrack recording (listening to previously recorded tracks while recording new ones). I use a Rolls 4 channel headphone amp so several people can record at once.

  • Sennheiser HD650
  • Beyerdynamic DT880 - 600 ohms
  • Beyerdynamic DT990 - 250 ohms
  • Beyerdynamic T1 Tesla (1st generation) - 600 ohms
  • Ultimate ears triple Fi 10 - IEMS with the triple armatures
  • Marshall IEMS
  • Panasonic RPHJE120K
  • Audio Technica ATH-A1000Z

After joining ASR , I immediately got these 2 below just to calibrate myself to ASR. Just wanted to find out ASR's recommendations worked for me.
  • Truthear Red
  • Truthear Blue

...and yes, I realized I really like these 2 and definitely ASR's recommendations are perfect
I'm kind of "resetting" my self after joining ASR and getting rid of all the junk I had :)

My favorite's "were" the Beyerdynamics but now my favorite are both the Truthears.
(I just got the JDS El DAC II plus and the JSDS Atom Amp plus today as per ASR ratings)

Raised with AKG since the 70's I recently bought the blue then the red truthears too, because ASR.

And I ordered a Moondrop PARA because of Crinacle, and because I am very curious.

Don't listen too much with headphones: I don't want to stress too much my ears. And with the modern equipment we have now, it is easy to turn up the volume and get no distortion and listen to too high level.

I'll be trying out the Moondrops also .

Having worked for many years as both a Live 'Touring' and Studio engineer and used many various units, (usually Beyer or AKG), I recently purchased a pair of Brand New but (Still in the Box) 2nd Hand Shure SRH 440's, (mainly due to their reviews and reported performance), let alone the Price the seller was asking, as compared to New, they were truly a Bargain.
He had won them in a local community raffle for charity and already had 2 x pairs of headphones, so was simply moving them on as it were.

The Shures' are great with impressive Low End, (without it being of the Boosted Bass variety lol) and with some subtle EQ, are IMHO Very good and More than acceptable, Especially for the price.
So far, I have not had Any of the issues I have read other people report and they 'fit' my head and ears quite well :)
Simply for convenience, I replaced the supplied 'Coily Cable', with a much more flexible and Longer cloth covered 'non coily' cable.
