Bagpipes - no seriously. But full marching band that goes well beyond the usual two tunes of Scotland the Brave and Amazing grace. I'm not even Scottish, but it envokes an emotion from deep within.
(Not sure that in a previous life, I heard this coming, peed my pants and ran away, or was part of a unit buoyed on by them backing me up! )
Hint: I *still* like mellotrons and pitch bends too.
Best to hear it in person, where acoustics in the open can really wig you out. Reflections of course, but also slight pitch changes if you are far away and there is wind and small temperature differences taking place. Cement starting to vibrate under your feet. The snick-snack precision of the drums. The rhythmic pounding .... Then there's the break for everyone to catch their breath and change to the next tune all while still moving forward. Ooooohh
A small taste of a live one in Edinburgh:
Not everyone's cup of tea, but something inside me digs it completely. I don't listen every day though.
