Vintage Hi-Fi Consoles

I love the looks of these. They pop up for sale fairly often in the Seattle area so I have thought about getting one and updating all the components but I realize it would be a dead end project as my spare time is limited as it is.

The audio dealer i worked at immediately following college (1973-76) was a McIntosh dealer. We sold a few of these set-ups. The console matched either the C (contemporary) or M (mediterranean) styles ML2 or ML4 speakers. It usually had the pre-amp and tuner in the center and space for a R2R on the left and a TT on the right. The power amps would be inside on the bottom. The owner had one in his house and I believe he had the ML4 speakers.

My grandparents had this radiogram from Philips, dating from 1957 or so:

I recently discovered the old catalogue on the web. I used to gawk at the thing, so impressive.

My grandmother has one of the old Astor (Australian brand, I believe) units with a radio, turntable, TV and speaker. Like all her furniture, kitsch+++

Unfortunately I'm on the other side of the world rn and can't get a photo. But here's a similar unit, I think a generation or two more recent than hers:

I think this was ours or at least very similar -- including the "glide-away" control panel for the TV. The brand was AWA: Amalgamated Wireless Australasia and the turntable was a Garrard AT6 Mk IIA, apparently.
