Wow! I guess better late than never. From time to time I kept thinking if I were still at Microsoft, this would be the first thing I would tell the team to implement and now!

Do you want to give an overview/link for others who don't know what UAC2 is Vincent?

The short answer is:

UAC1 can do 2 channel audio, 24 bit , 96 kHz max
Hence if you want to play 176, the next popular sample rate or higher, you need UAC2

As MS don’t have it you need a third party driver.
UAC2 is part of the USB standard and part of OSX and Linux for years.
