I have been hounding you guys to help me with my choices for a source unit for the better part of a month now. I think going back to my original thoughts that I may be best served going all out on an amp....perhaps an end game type that shall serve for long as it lasts.
The choices:
A90, 789, 887 for amp only (source out later or Just go with an E30 for now)
or could I get a DX7 Pro or Monolith 788 and keep it in one nice package.
I only have single ended and don't really know if I would ever get Balanced but I don't want to limit myself either. Plus I could always benefit from a DAC that is balanced or is that unnecessary.
One other question...do these units primarily excel with XLR or are they great at SE as well?

Have you looked at the spec sheets? You can directly compare them, especially for products from same manufacturer.

A90 has 2x power, better SNR and better crosstalk for unbalanced output.

If you only use SE headphones in the next few years, then consider L30 as it has as good SNR as A90 and a bit more power and costs fraction of A90.

Yes, upon further research, I have found that to be the case. However, I am now looking into an Asgard 3 or SP 200. SE only it would be the Asgard or the Heresy for pure power specs. The SP 200 is not balanced but does have the XLR just not sure about its power.
