SMSL DL200 connected to M2 Mac Mini Pro - sound is in fast-forward when I start playing

Sorry if this is in the wrong place...

Just bought the SMSL DL200 DAC to connect to my M2 Mac Mini Pro via USB and it sounds superb (running at 2ch 32 bit integer 192Khz verified via Audio Midi settings) and that's feeding my JBL 308P MkIIs

However, at times when I've not listened to any music and the system 'goes quiet', I start to play music again via Apple Music on my Mac and it's like it's in fast-forward. I can skip a few tracks and it'll go back to normal; or I have to go into Audio Midi and change the rate and it sorts itself out.

This doesn't happen if I use my iPhone 15PM and play via the Mac Mini using AirPlay2

Is there a reason as to why this happens and what do I need to do to 'fix' this please?

Cheers

I have a MacBook Air M1 2020 running macOS 13.2.1 and no such issues.

There is a short muting of the output after reconnecting to the source. This may fool you.

Are your files 192 kHz or why do you use it?

Have you tried it with other programs? Have you tried listening to YouTube videos via a browser for example?

It auto selects 192; so have just left it at that for now

Only does it with Apple Music via USB connection - doesn't do it with any other platform

Try changing the DL200's sample rate in the Audio MIDI Setup.

You can also try using LosslessSwitcher so that the DL200 always matches the sample rate of your audio files.

Does that happen with USB disconnected?

When I disconnect USB it retains the last sample rate. When I turn it off and on again with USB disconnected it reverts to 44.1. When I connect USB with the DL200 selected as output it uses the sample rate set in Audio MIDI Setup.

I have done; still seems to do it whether it's on 44.1 or 192 etc

If I use the Mac as the Airplay2 receiver from my iPhone; it doesn't do it

Can't disconnect the USB as that's the only connection

MAc's Audio Midi settings default to 32bit 192kHz - I can manually change this, but to what affect?

In all honesty it's nothing major; just wanted to understand why it does this at times

Sounds like a poorly programmed USB bridge inside the DL200.

The only solution I see is to contact SMSL support and hope for a firmware update.

So what do you mean by it auto selecting 192?

Disconnect USB turn it off and on and see what sample rate it selects.

Starts at 44.1 - nothing connected

Okay. Is 192 selected in the Audio MIDI setting?

Set it to 44.1 before disconnecting and see what it does while reconnecting.
