Was not familiar with Studio Electric Speakers. The bookshelf speakers didn't impress me but the round looking one (T3) did. It was $8,000 or some such price so pretty expensive for a small speaker.

Gold Dust Woman by Fleetwood Mac. http://shz.am/t226403

Excellent reproduction. The benchmark amps clipped though with the LED lighting. Surprising because they said it does 300 watts into 8 and 600 watts into 4 ohms.

While I can forgive our moderator for not preparing your room for sleep,

amplifiers without clipping indicators has long been a pet peeve of mine. Back in the day when we had power meters on our stuff (and or clipping indicators) you became well aware of just how much power musical peaks required. Benchmark gets another addaboy for the indicators.

Amir, I have thoroughly enjoyed the last three days going over all your show pictures and you do us a credit as always, and your bonus music tracks are always a delight to sample as well as your photos and candid remarks.....thanks MAN!

Thank you so much Tom. And I am with you 100% on clipping indicators. I think a lot of "amplifier sound" comes from them operating in that region. When clipping, each amps behaves very differently. Knowing that it has clipped (with a true clipping indicator), is pretty important. We had a lot more of them in 1970s than we do now. It was a big deal feature then.

I see two amps. I see two sets of 6 Ohm speakers. Were the amps run stereo or bridged? Neither speaker "recommends" that much bridged power.

AHB2
  • 100 Watts per channel into 8 Ohms, both channels driven
  • 130 Watts per channel into 6 Ohms, both channels driven
  • 190 Watts per channel into 4 Ohms, both channels driven
  • 240 Watts per channel into 3 Ohms, both channels driven
  • 200 Watts Bridged Mono into 16 Ohms
  • 380 Watts Bridged Mono into 8 Ohms
  • 480 Watts Bridged Mono into 6 Ohms

I don't recall precisely. I do remember talking to the Benchmark person and him saying how great their bridged mode was in that it actually improved performance rather than add distortion! This was the suite next door using the same amps but in black color.

Interesting, bridging my hafler dh220's did make them sound better as well, and I never looked back or needed to as far as solid state amplification, lucky me.
