Review and Measurements of Sound BlasterX AE-5

Did you manage to get a comparison ? I recently got the AE-5 Plus and wondering if the AE-7 is worth the extra 50% cost.
Zero perceived difference when using headphones.

it would seem that a DIY HT PC could potentially give better performance than all the AVR's tested so far.

Hey all, I have a question about the mic monitoring (sidetone) of this sound card. Is there any latency in the sidetone? I purchased the SoundBlasterX G6 and the Sound Blaster X4 and was disappointed to find out there was slight latency with the sidetone of those 2 products. I've noticed some people don't notice this slight latency, but to me, it's very obvious and it creates a "robotic echo" of my voice, for a lack of a better word. This slight latency was with all sound processing disabled. Any help with this matter would be much appreciated, thank you :).

Hello . Anyone tested AE5 plus with SPDIF out to AVR on 24bit/192khz ? I want to buy if anyone have test that . I have now USB sound blaster X3 and is very annoing. Is running on win10 , and on every PC update or restart the sound is really bad ( high frequency are crispy). If i turn to 24/96khz work fine but less quality than 24/192 . If i resset the card everything is ok until next PC restart. That happen on 3 different PC , so is board issue. I use it as SPDIF out to Denon AVR-3805 . Also I read the AE5 plus can pass DD & DTS . If anyone can test it i really appreciate it. Thanks

Don't buy creative.
One night I endured it.....
Then I brought back the Topping E 30 which, although two-channel, is much more cinematic.
The accompanying program makes it worse.
If you don't install it at all, it's somehow better.
Bad experience.
I don't recommend her!

Well, I have used Creative Labs cards since the beginning, sometime in the 90s and the major problems I've had have been with VIA chipsets on Athlon CPUs and then later Vista x64 the drivers took forever to finish. Didn't matter, I preferred XP x64 for anyway.

Current AE-5 works fine, it's almost that I wonder why do I even have a DAC for the desktop

Asus soundcard drivers were a lot worse. BSOD were normal. And EAX was horrid.

Μaybe in expensive systems it can perform with some dignity.
I would call the relatively economical and yes unconventional my system
sure didn't fit.

"I can’t quite figure out what’s going on with this card, but after a few days, the sound is much clearer. Yes, I might have been a bit unfair to it at some point; the Forum's assessment was correct.

Despite that, it’s a strange card and I still wouldn't recommend it. While the DAC does its job well, producing good sound from the analog outputs, the card gets things muddled over SPDIF. Specifically, if you select the SPDIF output, it swaps the surround speakers with the front ones. This happens when there are no DTS decoding . Perhaps if it receives a DTS signal, things might get corrected, but I’m not sure.

It goes without saying that the Creative Commander software is of questionable value."
