The Jazz / Blues category should be separated into separate categories because they do not belong to the same genre.
They do and they don't. In the early days of jazz the distinction was much less plain than it is now. The vaudeville blues singers were accompanied by jazz players. Louis Armstrong made some beautiful recordings with blues singers. When the electric guitar became prominent players like Tiny Grimes and Oscar Moore moved back and forth between jazz and blues. Grimes recorded with Art Tatum and Charlie Parker as well as on blues recordings. In the '50s and '60s the distinction became more well defined.

Today, classical, 20th/21st century (classical), piano, jazz, modular synth, ambient, deep house, neo soul, minimal techno, melodic psytrance, progressive trance, disco, Italo disco, bluegrass, a little rock - especially fuzzy guitar like My Bloody Valentine, some singer-songwriter, friend's bands in several genres. I lost interest in blues, reggae, Irish, and industrial. I tried to appreciate noise, but dropped that.

I like several different genres of music, but when situations get me down, nothing reaches out to me like classical music. I was very opinionated about certain styles and composers until a friend of mine in college said, "Classical music is dead people trying to tell you something. All you've got to do is figure out what they're trying to say."

That started me down a rabbit hole that, as far as I can see, has no end. ;)

Jim
"Classical music is dead people...": decomposers. Sorry, someone had to do it! :)

I had to say no to Hip Hop/RAP, as I do not listen to it if it is advocating violence or has cursing in it.
But there is some that has neither of those 2 items in it that I sometimes listen to.

What's interesting here is that Jazz and Classical are dramatically over-represented when you look at more gen-pop surveys of music genre listening habits. If you look up similar data from elsewhere, they both tend to get single digit percentages.

Correlation HiFi interest listening to Jazz and Classical? Seems far fetched to me but maybe
The fact that we differ from the general population in those 2 is mostly expected, if you've followed Hi Fi media over the year it's been pretty well reflected.

I completely agree, but too late now. :(
I'm from Chicago and grew up listening to Blues, my personal collection may be close to 20%.
But I listen to nearly zero Jazz with the exception of what's considered "crossover" George Benson - Breezin
and alike.

The age relation only reflects things as they stand today, the balance will constantly change.
But specially for Classical, Jazz, and Blues, they are mostly dying genres.

My votes to Rock, R&B, Blues, Country

Classical, Jazz & Blues are definitely not dying here. Several times a month you can go to 2 of the three (and in several of the months, you can go to all three) live.
I rarely see R&B here. A little more country than R&B. (Now I am talking live stuff, not on the radio or in the cloud or something like that).

Can't speak for live in your area.
But sales and interest as a marketable product have been declining for decades.

I think that most of the stuff I like to listen to nowadays is derived from influences by earlier bands like Yes, ELP, Genesis, Rush and the ilk.

Progressive Rock

Kind of jazz, kind of rock, syncopated beat.
Simon Phillips & Protocol, The Aristocrats, Virgil Donatti & OTV.

Err, they are somehow immune to natural processes?
Contemporary classical music is being written by living musicians and, of course, not by those who lived in the classical period.

Probably my narrow thinking, but to me blues, is Elmore Jame, Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker, etc, never though of Louis Armstrong as blues, to me he is more big band or jazz

Voted for other. Meaning Jam Grass/Blue Grass & Jam Bands via Nugs.net .

I just go by what's showing up live at the local music venues: music hall's, large clubs, small colosseums, etc.
Admittedly I saw The Rolling Stones (unannounced to the general public) in a club (a less than 75 minute drive from here) practicing for a stadium gig that would happen about a 3 & 1/2 hour drive from here a couple of days later.
I only knew about it & was able to go due to my work at a radio station at the time. Who graciously sent me to accompany the News Broadcaster as an assistant.

Guys, this is a poll with categories created by ChatGPT, see #10 and #11 in the thread. A very broad survey. A first test. With that, it is of course impossible, with ten voting options, to cover everything. :)
BUT you can create new polls. For example ten different styles of Rock or of Jazz, Blues and so on. Or select three styles from the categories of those that received the most votes in this survey and add a category: Other to get ten options.:)

It is of course possible to create a lot of different polls, but the question is if there is interest in answering them all?

There is no question that there are many options: :)

Speaking of Jazz and Classical. It comes as no surprise that the results depend on who you ask. Check this out:

The most popular music genres in 2023 ranked through Spotify stats

  1. Pop
  2. Electronic dance (EDM)
  3. Rap
  4. Rock
  5. Urbano latino

Least popular music genres

Again, this information is purely based off statistics we’ve found. We’re not suggesting music within these genres are disappointing, or that they’re unpopular with everyone. They just aren’t as popular as the top performing genres. They wouldn’t be around without people streaming them, even if they aren’t streamed as often.

Unsurprising to some, and surprising to others, Classical, Jazz and Country music are the least popular music genres. It’s possible that due to Classical music being most popular with older generations, it simply isn’t being streamed. The genre is listened to most by those who possibly reach for the radio rather than streaming platforms.

Along with this, you have Jazz, which is fantastic when performed live. Perhaps again, it comes down to listening styles. Maybe Jazz fans would rather hear this type of music performed differently, they might not be as interested in heading to Spotify and streaming their top Jazz tracks. This isn’t to say Jazz isn’t a good genre.
