I've been playing around with my MiniDSP2x4HD and four subs to simultaneously optimize both frequency response and impulse response. I wrote an optimizer to simultaneously optimize for both. This is what Dirac Live does for speakers, and possibly for subs with Dirac Live Bass Control (DLBC), but I haven't used DLBC since my receiver only has one sub output. For my optimizer I used both the MiniDSP's IIR and FIR filters. Below are the results in terms of frequency, phase, and impulse at three different locations in my room (Center, Left, and Right side of the couch).
You can see that not only is the frequency response flatter, but the phase response is smoother, and hence the impulse response is more peaked, with less loud oscillations before and after the peak.
Would anyone be interested in trying out something similar on their system? I can try taking measurement files and running the script, but I was thinking of eventually creating a GUI if enough people were interested. This would be useful for anyone with multiple subwoofers and MiniDSP2x4HD who doesn't have DLBC, but I'm also interested to try in a system with DLBC to see how it compares.
