Look Inside JBL Studio 580

The glory days of JBL are behind us for sure, but at least we can still get our hands on these studio 5 series which harken back to JBL’s past. The studio 5 series are the last speakers engineered by Greg Timbers.
I find that JBL still makes speakers worthy of their legend. (Not all ofc) I have the 530s and Stage A130 and find both to be excellent. IME they offer outstanding price/performance value and rate well above their range. I feel the A130 is definitely the best $200 speaker available rn. The 530 competitive up to $800. For example, I love Revel speakers and think the 530 compares favorably with the M16, not equal but comes very close in several aspects.

FWIW I was lucky enough to hear both the HDI-1600 and 4309 recently. Certainly among the best speakers I’ve ever heard. JBL is still producing gems.

How's that? You can get these in Europe too. Well at least they don't use electrolytics in the MF and HF secrion.
That said, JBL is dead as a company to me after they shifted their TOTL stuff distribution to Asia. Europe and even the US only got scraps.
4344Mk2 anyone, 4348?

I’ve been running a pair of JBL Studio 580’s for over a year. It’s probably the longest I’ve kept a pair of speakers. Needless to say I enjoy them. Below are some pictures of the internals. I’ll spare most of my subjective comments other than looking inside the box and at the components it looks to me like you get a lot for the asking price of $700 per pair.

I didn’t get pics of the 2414H-1 compression drivers. I couldn’t figure out how to pop the horn off to get access.
What does the added magnet attached to the rear of the main magnet do? Since CRT color monitors are no longer used, which as the original reason for them, it looks like a magnet whose job was made redundant.

I loved my 590's 580's and 530's. On sale one of the best price vs performance speakers I've ever owned one of the favorite speakers I have ever owned.

Thank you...
Have 530/520 in the RCL
Always wondered how 580s would do replacing 530s..
Denon x3600 AVR

If anyone is in/around Boston I'm selling my 580s for $280 (one like-new, one B-stock that was purchased with cosmetic damage but sounds perfect)

Update..
Running new 580s with Denon x3600 AVR
w/ HSU vtf15 sub
Q. Would Adcom 555 give a significant boost to dynamics, soundstage etc?

Used one few miles away..
Thank you

the 555 is an "old" amp

1995 vintage and that gen you're getting the usual sort of thing... like would i expect performance similar to a Sunfire Cinema Grand or a Parasound 2205 etc.?

and who is to say if its refurbed... it will probably need it

i would buy a 555 if it really was cheap enough and I really wanted a vintage unit.... knowing that at very least i may need to sink some more $$$ into it

but the practical person in me with stick with the 3600

btw. these are some amazing prices on the studio 580

$299 for ONE i expect? $600 for what is a really decent piece of engineering

even WAThifi agree

and look at the date... these are 10 yr old speakers so they reached the end of their saleable life

not to say that matters.... we know that 10-20yr old plus speakers are fine if they are designed properly

Question...
580s configuration with Denon x3600..?
Have HSU vtf15 sub..

Speaker setting to small?
Crossover?
Subwoofer setting?

Does Audyssey allow for accuracy?
I know it always sets 580s to Large ..

Thank you

anyone know if JBL Studio 698, are any good for 3 way home theater? any issue with the horn missing frequencies?
