Let Your Voice Help Us Make an All-In-One

Why not have both headphone and power amps? I can't be the only one that uses both.

I love all-in-ones but would suggest having the CD player as a separate device. I'm in the market for a nice small CD player myself but the "good" desktop ones are all $300+.

Since this is a desktop form factor I'd go with headphone amp instead of power amp. Many desktop users have headphones and powered speakers and so no need for a power amp.

Since it already has analog input, the CD player is optional. Those of us still using CDs already have players and have likely gone down a rabbit hole of getting the BEST ONE.

I vote for Option A

Option B first - I think it will sell more units than Option A

then Option A

then Option 'C' - Preamplifier with differential architecture to guard against hum from an AC power ground loop AND no CD player

Consider only adding features you can back with customer support

IF one is going to add the moving parts of Compact Disc player and an HDMI jack to the back panel, I'd want a transport capable of supporting most every format from Red Book CD to 4K Blu-ray with an HDMI jack that is an eARC-capable 'output' jack

For me both options lack DSP (for HP or/and room correction). But that's only me.

I imagine those that listen to CD will want a specialist CD transport (i.e. listening to CD's is a bit like turntables) so those that still use them are probably after 'special audiophile' CD transports not a 'standard' CD in an all in one unit

I use CDs and would be fine with having a player built into an all in one. I think most CD users here are of the mind that transports make no difference. But I'd want a drawer, and not a nasty push in the slot type mechanism.

Either one of those options should include PEQ and DSP. The one with the power amp should include a full control panel a la miniDSP (Dirac, high/low pass w selectable slopes), and the headphone one should include some kind of multi-channel HRTF OOYH kind of software like HeSuVi.

Agree!

I'd buy option 2 regardless if the price is right, but would prefer a drawer.

Good quality won't be cheap, and the problem with a many-in-one product as envisaged is if 1 internal function fails, in which case the whole thing may become useless.
If the unit comprised streamer+ dac + pre-amp + headphone amp then I would want to see sufficient inputs/outputs to enable the user to bypass a selected function (eg if the dac failed) by routing around it. Say, streamer to external DAC and back in to the preamp.
HDMI in/out would also be nice!

I must like connectors:
  • Fully-balanced XLRs for BOTH In/Out
  • Simultaneous XLR + RCA outputs
  • HDMI pass-thru connector.
  • RJ-45 for AoIP (Dante/AES67)
  • USB-C [I've seen it referenced as an 'Italian Anamero']
  • Delete internal AC/DC conversion
Some requested wireless:
Could that be in the form of an add-on card?

I liked A in the Fosi Audio group discussion. There was a teaser post about a small cd player in the Fosi pipeline but a good cd transport for $200 would be nice. Or make it a CD player with an option to bypass the DAC.
I am against these integrated contraptions. Already have a DAC or three.
Might as well jam this in some powered speakers.
But if that is what people want then give it to them.

it should be trivial to have two SKUs... one with cd, one without... like those consoles

and a cheap blank plate put over the slot if you dont want to have two cases (one sans slot)

and the firmware changes for and without a cd drive is of course, nothing

BUT Sony charges something like $80 retail for an external BR drive on the PS5?

my expectation of a price for a CD drive is very very low... but if its sata i would rather use that space for a hdd

I personally like the A, to be able to choose the type of amplification or active speakers.
Option B is ideal for lovers of an all-in-one, of course it is not a main system but an auxiliary system, because if we start asking for extras and options the price increases.
That the functions it performs are correct and if possible control by mobile.

A, but with digital input for external CD transport.
(You can offer a matching CD transport. That would be convenient and look very nice)
Headphone amp + audio out + subwoofer out.
Headphone amp should be "sufficient", at least at DX3pro+ level in SINAD and power.
