This is my first time attending a show in LA. I missed Newport in the past and so have no reference relative to how things were. That aside, I must say this is one nice show so far. The hotel is very nice. Rooms are nicely lit that makes photography easier. The AC is a bit loud so some companies turn it off which results in hot but not overly uncomfortable. Not so far anyway with this probably being the slow day (i.e. non-weekend).

Close location to the airport was wonderful for those of us flying in. But I understand it is hell for anyone having to drive from greater Los Angeles area.

Ran into a number of people and had really good conversations. The day finished with a set of wonderful live performances by Bluecoast records. Overall, I am very happy with the show. I know, strange to see me not be grumpy!

I am going to post things differently this time, putting the reports for the same day together rather than separate threads.

As it happens, right around the corner from lobby registration area was a massive suite for Harman and one for Sony. So no, I did not bias this because of my personal bias toward Harman products. :)

As you can see, there was a ton on display. This is the first audio show where Harman itself has such a presence as opposed to being in dealer suites.

They had a wonderful AB set up between the 4367 and the Revel Performa3 F208Be (to be released next year). I must say the 4367 did better here than it did at AXPONA 2017. Ultimately the Revels are more mellow and 4367 more dynamic. But there was much less of "in your face" sound in 4367. I don't envy anyone trying to pick one of these without hearing them side by side!

Here is the track we used for comparing the JBL 4367 to the Revel F208Be.

The Tongue by The Donnis Trio. https://shz.am/t72676527

The 4367 was more open than the mellower Revel. Note however that the 4367 was farther apart which makes this kind of comparison very hard.

Another comparison track between 4367 and F208Be:

Not Guilty by The Donnis Trio. https://shz.am/t89839885

I thought bass was a bit more impactful in the Revel. Imaging was smaller due to narrower distance between them on Revel.

The 4367 had very high clarity and balance.

Both were superb.

The Sony suite was misguided. They had a large room just like Harman but were showing three different implementation of Dolby Atmos starting with a soundbar. Yes soundbar!

Even the video was lousy in the one projection room with no concert videos to play. Walked right back out.

Cleverly they had Room EQ on. Response was a bit too flat for my taste with the highs a bit bright but boy did it get rid of room modes in bass. And added some pleasant "presence."

Superb but perhaps a bit bright. Lots of details.

Put Your Head On My Shoulder by OC Times. https://shz.am/t68563477

Hmmm. Not sure if the above is the correct match.

Regardless, what did play was a bit "in your face" in front row.

Pearl Speakers & McIntosh:
Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley. https://shz.am/t219126

Excellent track but vocals just sounded strange to me on these speakers.
