LA Audio Show 2017: Day 1

Made the mistake of putting my ear near the ribbon driver. I just about went deaf! That is one piercing driver as these tend to be.

You go to shows and you think you have seen it all but then comes along Magnepan:

Yes, that is what it looked like. They had stacked two of their speakers on top of each other to make a tall, line array of sorts. Then put one of them in the center as to fix the staging regardless of where people were sitting. Then strangely put all of that behind the curtain and plants???

I know this track well and it is superbly recorded.

Here, it sounded distant, lispy and again, very centered.

T+A Electroacoustic, Wilson Audio

Had a very nice conversation with the folks in T+A suite. This is a german company which has high market share in Europe but outside of DAC, very little in US. So they are doing a reboot with new distribution.

Even though they make their own speakers, here they shared the suite with Wilson and their Alexx speaker.

Excellent. Nice and airy.

The next look up is wrong so I won't post it. But it was an organ piece. It had really deep lows.

Overall the T+A plus Wilson Alexx did well.

Audio Research, Wilson Speakers, Technics, AudioQuest

Pietra Speakers. These are made of granite and as a result, are totally, totally solid. Nothing penetrates the enclosure.

Strange to see Emotiva amps paired up with them. I am sure it makes Sal giddy with joy though!
