Would KH80+KH750 be better than a single 8361? Because it's really much cheaper.

Got 120/750 on my desktop and 8361a in the living room. Both great setups, but really different beasts when it come to max level and listening distance. Never compared them one on one though, and never cared. Both get all the love whenever I see them.

8361A can get much louder. unless you want to use strictly for desktop speakers (i.e. every close to you), 8361A can be used in a wider range of applications.

In a house less than 15 square meters, I want to use KH80 to build 5.1 or 7.1.4, which is my requirement.

Even if you can afford to, can you truly fit 5 or 7 8361s in such a space?

In my country, A pair of KH80 + a single KH750 is not even as expensive as an 8331A, which is what surprised me.

The Genelec 8331A are quite expensive, at least for me.

For the price of a pair of 8331A I got a pair of 8330A, one Genelec 7360A subwoofer, GLM kit for room EQ, a pair of Genelec L-stands, cables and still have money leftover.

in pure extension and ability to place the sub to mitigate room modes, it likely is slightly better compared to 8361A in room within it's SPL limits, but 8361A have much higher max SPL, plus it's coaxial means the vertical directivity will be near perfect also which is a big plus

You probably could go with the KH for everything except center channel. It is the channel that needs the most output. I'd go with an 8361a for that one channel. Or at the very least one of the large KH models for center.

Hi

I have been pleasently surprised by some components which in the past I would have believed not to be worthy of consideration. my main speakers are JBL LSR 308. This said.. I am not sure that a KH 120 + ONE subwoofer can sound as well as a pair of 8361 in a room in a non-ultra-nearfield configuration, even with the MA-1 or any other kind of DSP. No.

I believe however, if one has the skills, knowledge, patience and inclination, yes one could "build" a good speaker system featuring the KH120.. An example I have been mulling for the past few weeks... yes
I call it Neuman-Rythmik Hybrid.
Neuman KH-120 ............................ $750/each
Rythmik FM-8 as Stands/woofer$950/each

That is a potential 3-way, uber speaker, IMO for $1700.oo. Not one box and not for the faint of heart but .. people.. This could be something, if well executed.
For 2-channel. I would use this hybrid with a miniDSP SHD, plus , of course, a pair of subwoofers for $2000 the pair. @sweetchaos subwoofer tools would help me choose several subwoofers that would shake the foundation of many houses... cleanly :D HSU, Monoprice, Rythmik, SVS have models in the less than <$900.oo shipped range
Such a system would require months of tinkering and measurements and wrangling but ... I believe it could be very difficult to do better for the cash outlay...
Complicated system , I know, but, for the money? and insane potential performance?

For HT where, I favor identical LCR speakers, it could become very complicated, very unwieldy but ... still worthy of serious consideration.

Peace.
