hey welcome oivavoi, perhaps my favorite spot in the whole world is near your, a fjord in Norway, Geiranger, and we were there for 4 days in late August or maybe September, and there was almost no body around,, too cold for European tourists, will never forget that place.
Just looked it up and seems a step up maybe from the fjords of New Zealand! Must put it on my bucket list to see.....Thanks! I agree, the Geiranger fjord is really breathtaking...
Hi folks, new member here! Norwegian chap. Been lurking for a while. I really like this forum. What I like here is the combination of objectivism and commitment to reason, AND at the same time the respect for subjective critical listening and a passion for music. Most audiophile forums drive me crazy because of the massive amount of sheer stupidity. While hydrogen.audio, for example, is so dry it becomes boring. This forum seems like a good compromise
Briefly about myself: I'm schizophrenic when it comes to music and hifi. Not in the clinical sense, of course. But still. My day job is to do research in social science. Hence my objectivism. But my big passion in life has always been music. I improvise on my piano every day, sing in a semi-professional choir, and write songs whenever I feel melancholic. And listen to music of course, at concerts and at home.
When listening or playing, I forget all about measurements or objective data, and I ALMOST start to believe in the magical qualities of cables and pixie dust. Not quite. But almost. But the objectivist in me usually wins out.
At the moment my system consists of the small active box speakers DM10 from AVI, which I listen to in the near field. They are insanely good, IMO, even though I'm skeptical of box speakers in general, and there are speakers which measure even better. They just sound - right. Voices and acoustic instruments sound like they're supposed to. That simple, and that difficult. By now I'm firmly convinced that passive speakers are the devil.
But they won't be my last speakers. What I miss is a more room filling sound, that doesn't lock me to the sweet spot. So I'm exploring as different options as multichannel, big horns, line array/CBT, and omnidirectional. We'll see what I end up with.
Cheers!
Yea, what he said. (I think)Trur jeg vet hvem du er på HFS forresten...
Didn't catch this. Welcome, nice to see more Norwegians here!

Hehe, cool!
Jepp, kjente behov for å diskutere med noen likesinna innen hifi...
Oh this Norwegian? If so, I speak it too!Hehe, cool!

Hehe, joda, du er jo en av fornuftens lys der borte
Ok, last Norwegian sentence for now!
Welcome, thanks for taking the time to post. I Look forward to reading your contributionsHello all,
Found this forum a week ago (not sure how I never saw it before) and have spend way too much time reading the threads. Really like this forum and would like to thank Amir for setting it up, and all of you who have been posting for your thoughtful and insightful posts. Over the last 15+ years I have been reading on and off all the regular audio forums and never liked what I saw. For the first time I see people having real discussions, based on facts and real knowledge and having constructive discussion (for the most part ).
I am not an audio engineer, recording engineer, speaker designer o anything like that. My knowledge of the audio world is very limited but I do know what I like and am finally in a place where I will be able to put together a new audio system. My last one has been in storage for many years and it was very basic (old Onkyo receiver with Monitor Audio Speakers - the old ones still made in England).
As much as I can I try to go to live music events (amplified or not), audio shows (have been to the last 2 Axponas) and sometimes dealer events as well. Typically I leave audiophile events pretty disappointed for a number of reasons: The music selection is terrible; they insist on playing records with a lot of surface noise, clicks and ticks; whoever is presenting the system tells the audience what they are supposed to hear before they introduce a new change (say an expensive power cable) and then everybody nods and raves about the changes that I certainly could not hear; the prices of the gear are ridiculous, and all the audiophiles are talking about how the $15K amplifier rack is a bargain; and the music is too loud overpowering the room and causing the speakers to distort and sound nothing like the real event (in case of un-amplified instruments).
Anyway, i am glad I found you guys and will continue to digest as much information and knowledge as my brain can handle, specially as I start looking for my new system. Hopefully it will be okay for me to seek some advice from you guys in the near future.
Thank you!
