How good is your hearing?

notch hearing loss at 4 kHz - from lightning strikes

I can feel the pain in my ear at 19.5kHz. Never repeated that after more than 10 years.

Great thread. Should be promoted to front page/sticky status. Knowledge of what your hearing range actually is can help users better select audio devices and gear. I am at 14K in one ear. The other is dismal. With this knowledge I now know for certain that eq-ing anything above 14k is wasted amp energy.

13k. I'm 65 so I'm not shocked.

Almost exactly 18KHz at 29.

I can hear to about 14KHz, but it appears I have a notch filter for the frequencies of my wife’s voice sometimes, or so she says.
I call it a limiter, cause it prevents distorsion in our brains

I think some people have an expectation bias that boosts the wife's voice frequencies and perceive them as louder. :D

I am 49. Just a couple weeks ago I could "sense" up to 16Khz.

For dB difference test, I passed 0.5db. I could sense 0.2db down, but not really up, thus not doing well in that test.

For pitch, I could do 5c.

For ms 2 way, 10ms easily, lower is not as easy

Apart from catching the mosquito warble which surprised me, the thing I learned is that my ambient noise level is shockingly high compared to the quiet test tones.

Depends on SPL. It drops sharply around 16-17 kHz. I am 53.

'How good is your hearing?' - Isn't this the most important thing to consider when buying audio equipment?

Nah---it's the number of knobs and the expanses of chrome:
