In a friend's listening room, with an omni-directional measurement mic, I can measure some bad influence, elevating decibel figures on average, of the wall behind the listener above about 320Hz. When I use a cardioid mic, the effect of the wall behind the listener reduces dramatically - a much flatter frequency-amplitude curve -.
