Using a pair of genelec 8020D's hooked up to a "komplete Audio 1" interface, It's not great...Which is why I'm looking for an upgrade!

Im looking for a DAC/AMP combo unit, under 500 euros preferably that is suitable for both my genelecs and various IEMs/headphones (nothing that needs a ton of power).

I have somewhat narrowed it down to the JDS labs element III mk2 or the Topping Dx5 lite. Both seem to fit my criteria, however the question I have is the balanced output of the topping worth it? I prefer the look and formfactor of the Element, and I have some worries about the reliability of the dx5, so I'm leaning towards the JDS Labs unit.

Any other suggestions are also very welcome!

You can connect RCA sources to the Genelec's XLR input.

With the right cable construction (DIY/made to order), you would even get the same noise/hum rejection as with a native XLR source.

But for an easy, guaranteed hum-free setup using off-the-shelf components, XLR/TRS Line out is definitely preferred.

Some of the least expensive DAC+Headphone Amp combo devices with balanced Line out are the SMSL M300SE, C200, and DL200.

Drop.com has the DX5 on sale or if you can get an SMSL C200 they're really good, I have two of them.

Just about any would suit, but I’ll throw the SMSL M500 MkIII on the list. I like the form factor, given it can sit beside other electronics or even be tucked away. Check out the review by Amir, it was very clean in each test. It’s on sale at Apos and was on sale at Amazon last week.

Interesting, what type of rca cable would I need? Thank you for the other suggestions also

This is the basic cable construction:

To further improve CMRR, you can install a series resistor to match the RCA output impedance:
