I currently have AKG K 240DF phones. Been using for decades. Happy with them but looking for another pair that are on the ear as sometimes these get hot and sweaty in warmer months. I listen to exclusively Classical and 80% solo piano if that makes any difference. Any suggestions for models that sound close to my current phones? I'm used to the 240 model so I'm good with that sound. Price not a big issue but like to keep it below 1K

Closest to that are most likely the Koss PortaPro or KPH30i.
They are well within budget ($ 30 t0 $ 50)

There are no on-ears with the same 'tone' though. You would have to use EQ.

Thanks for response. Thats a good starting point. The Beyer phones get good reviews after a quick check

the distortion less so :(

Then again the K240 is not that much worse:

The PortaPro also is not distortion free but at least better than K240 (except at 4kHz)

Beyers, alas, can only be bought second hand. No longer in production.
Not parting with my DT1350 and T51i :)

I might consider those if they were more expensive ;)

You could also consider Grado's.

@pinger are you looking for a traditional wired headphone? Or would a Bluetooth headphone work as well?

I believe the AKG K240DF are the 600-Ohm version.

OP is looking for on-ear alternatives to the K240DF.

The DF indeed is not the same as the (mediocre) 55ohm version but in distortion the DF is not that far apart from the Koss thingies.

Those are a lovely pair of cans. Let me know if you think its time to give them a new home ;)

I have recently got a pair of Sony MDR-Cd900ST based on advise. They are on-ear, cheap (<$200), well built and sound good. Not sure how close to 240DF sound profile though. If you get a chance to try one, I'd recommend it.

I slightly prefer the new Koss KPH40 to the Porta Pro, I have both and the Porta pro are with Yaxy pads (better than stock ones). A real bargain. Moreover, it is the most comfortable headphone ever.
