On the surface, the WiiM Ultra ticks all the things I'm looking for in a desktop preamp -- bass management, EQ, volume control, headphone amp, adjustable output level -- with a couple of misses -- no USB input, questionable build quality on the RCA plugs, balanced signal support.
I'm not looking for a streamer. I get all my sources from my PC. But I can't shake the feeling that "streamers" are going to be the new AVRs - easier and more profitable for a company to build an all-in-one box that over delivers across multiple markets rather than specialized boxes for specific use cases.
Do you think there's a place for a desktop preamp (all the features I described less the streaming) or will we need to overbuy to get that feature set?
