How do you equate quality (assuming value as well) with their snake oil aspects?

I don't. I recognise that they are able to make quality nice looking gear and that (IMO) the owner does a bad rep. for the company as a snake oil salesman.

PS Audio makes quality gear. They should just stay out of the snake oil business.. Their DAC (the silver one) sell 10 minutes after being put up on the used market.

This just bypassed the active line stage which provided gain. So you get switching and volume control. According to reports the output impedance was rather high in this mode as it basically just became a passive volume pre going thru a pot.
