According to this article Dolby Atmos pass through will finally happen on many Apple devices.

Bear in mind this is only "confirmed" for the Mac so far. If I understand this correctly (not very likely) up to this point if you played an Atmos file on the computer and were connected to an AVR via HDMI it would send it over as LPCM, meaning in the same format as the ATV currently does. Apparently so computer generated sounds could be mixed in (not entirely clear on this). This change means it can be sent over as a bit stream and be decoded by the AVR (so no computer sounds mixed in).

What I want is for REW to have the ability to control more than 8 channels. I suspect that would still require REW to have a Dolby license? Clear as mud...

Maybe the more technically clued-in could weigh in?

Has anyone had any problems with the latest Apple TV software update. It now thinks my projector can only display 1080p!!
