Dynaudio Heritage Special

Heritage are built to "old school" dynaudio standards unappologetically. I suspect dynaudios design choices are informed and deliberate, though I don't pretend to understand their rational. The price is crazy but these are built of very high quality components in denmark. I had a pair of contours for 25 years and countless moves used as PA speakers at parties when I was in college, thrown up on at one point and knocked over another. They still looked beautiful and sounded great to me at time of sale last year.

Id buy something else besides these, but I want dynaudio to succeed because I think the mean well as a company and make quality speakers. Plus I am with Erin most of them sound better to me than I would think from the measurments a priori

Multiple ugly resonances, inconsistent directivity and pricey!

What’s not to like? :D

I almost hate to stir the waters, but that may be the attraction of some vintage speakers. They have "character".

I get it. Still have my Signet SL280s. I bought my first ones at an Audio Technica warehouse sale. When they got water damaged, I found some used ones. They have more character than any rehash does and without the price gouge. :)

I use to listen to my speakers, I do not measure them.
Which, unfortunately, when something you found dislike, you won't know whether it's the speaker itself or other things like placement, room modes or so, which can easier lead to gear acquisition syndrome

I have been a very happy HS owner for a couple of years now. I have tried a few similarly and higher priced speakers in my room, including B&W diamonds 805D4s, Boressen X1s, Kudos Titans, Focal Sorpa 1s, Dyn C20s. To my ears, none of the above are a match for the HS's addictive mids and highs. I am also sensitive to high frequencies and I find most of the speakers on that list to be harsher up top, making long listening sessions challenging, unlike the HS. The HS have also scaled incredibly with higher end electronics, revealing everything during component upgrades (good and bad). I am wondering if anyone has found a standmount that they consider an upgrade in all areas from the HS. I might try Raidho next.

Even comparing to Dynaudio Confidence 20?

I’m currently running Revel F228BE’s but kinda miss my Dyn Contour 20’s. There’s just something intoxicating about them, no they aren’t perfect speakers and the Revels are objectively superior but that doesn’t directly correlate with personal enjoyment. I’ve listened to the Confidence line and they are objectively and measurably better than Contour or Heritage but they give up a little of that Dyn magic and Dyn’s are just seductive, no better way to describe them.

I have the Contour 20 and I love the speakers. At the time of purchase I paid a little more for the Rosewood High Gloss color. I intend to upgrade to the Confidence 20. The problem is that the difference in price is absurd here in Brazil.

Maybe it was just my listening space but do you feel like these play like tower speakers with a massive soundstage? I always felt like it should be impossible for these speakers to sound this big

So, my friend. I can get a spectacular sound with the Contour 20.

I've already had Epicon 6 and Monitor Audio 200 in this same space and for my taste the Contour 20 sounds better.

They form a spectacular stage with a lot of dynamics and with Torres bass.

I use the Integrated Gryphon Atilla + Aurender A10 + Transtotor Crescendo Neto + Pre phono Tom Evans Anniversary.

I believe that the Dynaudio Towers go down more, but the Contour 20 do a great job.

I really want to listen to Confidence 20 and the famous Heritage.

I haven’t listened to the HS but the Confidence series are extremely neutral. I enjoy the Dynaudio house sound so if I wanted a neutral speaker I’d look elsewhere. I have Revel Performa BE’s currently which are probably significantly better performing than the Confidence at a fraction of the cost. For me personally if I go back to Dynaudio (I most likely will) I’ll look for some older Contours, those have a cult following for a reason. Seductive sound, Dynaudio got the Cool-Aid mixture just right if that’s your thing.

Yes, Hi-End speakers sound neutral, trying to make musical instruments more loyal. I really like the sound of Dynaudio and I'm afraid of changing brands and regretting it. The normal tendency is to migrate to the top line Confidence, but the prices charged here in Brazil are very high. I have to pay 3 times the price of my Contour 20.
A very good speaker that I can buy for less is the Focal Sopra 1. I heard it at a trade show in Germany, and I liked it, but there were a lot of people in front of me.
I have three bookshelf options with prices below Confidence 20. Focal Sopra 1, the B&W 805 D4 and KEF Reference 1 Meta

If you enjoy Dyn Or highly doubt you’ll enjoy B&W. The Kef Reference are fantastic speakers but you should try them before you switch from Dynaudio, it’ll be a radical change. Sopra is different but still carries a little audio “majic”. Dynaudio and Focal are different but both have a seductive house sound with their own cult following

I agree with you 100%.
I love the sound of Dynaudio and I'm afraid of changing brands and not liking it.
Just testing to be sure. I'll save more money to buy the Confidence 20.
At least I'm sure I'll like it.
