Does Spatial Sound effect WASAPI (exclusive) playback?

I know that the "Default Format" sample rate / bit depth setting of a sound device doesn't matter when playing in WASAPI(exclusive) mode.
But what about Spatial Sound?
Do the spatial sound settings of the device only effect "shared mode" playback?
Or do I need to turn off the virtual surround sound (I'm using Dolby Atmos for Headphones) to stop it downsampling the audio?

Using Windows 10, MusicBee in WASAPI (exclusive) if that makes a difference.

I'd think any improvements in Sound panel would not apply to WASAPI exclusive. That said - general suggestion is to disable any improvements and set default sound to 44.1Khz/24 or 32 bit.
