does it make sense to test how amps behave when they clip?

What signal measured?
What is the amplifier‘s rates and the loudspeaker's?
And so on ....
I hooked the leads up to the wires powering the speaker. Sony SSCS-5 and a cheap 5.1 Denon receiver. I played a 600Hz tone just to see how much I'd have to turn up the amp to get the signal to clip. It got really loud, irritated everybody in the office, and the speaker was clearly not liking it. It was just a start to see what it would take to make the amp clip. It was way too loud for me to want to turn it up any more. Maybe at some particular frequency or transient the amp could be a problem, but I feel convinced that my high efficiency horns are not clipping the amps significantly because they're on active crossovers, much more efficient, and I don't play them that loud. So, I'm not too concerned that my amp is causing any serious audible issues.
