Do you have prejudices that you can't get rid of? (Lets stick to audio)

I have a few. I think they were formed by bad experiences. You bought something and after a few days or weeks you no longer liked the sound, or you sold something and regretted it afterwards. So you were annoyed about something and created a prejudice so that it wouldn't happen again.

For example, I still believe that midrange speakers made of paper or fiberglass (e.g. aramid) have sound advantages over other materials.

Or this one: I distrust tweeters with massive diffusers (e.g. KEF) and can't imagine that they can sound airy.

There's hardly a cure.

I cannot eat vegan food because of my deepest beliefs and prejudices.
I don't think it tastes good ;)

Autotune turned up to 11
Square taper for the win! :)

Actually, I've had no issues with Holowtech II, and not needing a crank puller is a plus.
After more than 40 years, I still believe in threaded bearing shells and cranks without square taper, out of deep conviction.

So- Im not psychic but my crystal ball tells me this is going to go to places we dont want it to. So I am making a management decision and changing the title and subject matter to prejudices in audio. Hope that is OK with you @007Shorty - PM me to discuss if not.

Thanks

I always tell myself that I have no prejudices, but in reality I do have them!! The hard part is to understand if personal tastes in reality are not prejudices or vice versa. However, there are some audio brands that I really dislike, it doesn't matter if they are excellent, if they produce extraordinary devices, I just can't stand them.... I won't name names obviously! There are some types of products that I just don't like, even if they are miraculous, I can't tolerate them. There are some forms of product that I can't stomach... yes I have prejudices, or maybe they are just tastes...

This is an affront to us two wheelers, that have deeply held beliefs about bottom bracket standards. :p

I'm not sure they count as prejudices but iv things I know are irrational but have a hard time leaving behind.

Like buying the relatively cheap Wiim streamer , part of me found that difficult to embrace. I'm glad I did though . Bit perfect is bit perfect and I plug it into a dac anyway .

I'm want to bin off my speaker cables that cost way too much and just put my amps next to my speakers using likely very short mogami or amazon basic speaker cable but not taken that leap yet.

Although I use the CD player I can't hear a difference between plugging the Wiim streamer directly into my anthem STR and using my TAD D1000. So bit ridiculous keeping that , all I need is a CD transport.

Then there's all the power cables .. I can't really face selling any of the various cables I have and done use as they are bollocks aren't they lol .

Iv got decent enough class D monoblocks but find myself wanting my massive class A amps back , why ? Who knows ..

So iv suffered for my audio prejudice and ignorance and in a small way remain conflicted somehow.

Tbh I'd like to scrap my vivid G3s and get some KEF blades in to , they are better built if nothing else .

I don't tend to sell things , that's another irrational thing . On that front anyone want some Belles mono amps and a pre amp

I'm one of those guys who don't like conventional cone/VC drivers except for 300hz <.
Small planars/ribbons for me.

I'm not a DSP fan and I have tried for the last 6-7 years. It just ruins the sound I'm used to in my rooms. I don't use AVRs or AVPs unless I'm
fiddling around with a 3.3 or 4 system. I use a 3 speaker front end when we have friends over and we concert, no matter the source. The source
is usually records CDs and I have a server set up that 78s were moved to for the people who like the older "Big Band" or "Jazz" venues.

I'm not a fan of receivers or AVRs either, I have a few and they work OK but the last 20 years of AVRs have a ways to go on the dependability side.
They are darn near impossible to fix versus just buying a new one. Everyone I know has the same problem, they want the "NEW" features.
I can't see spending 2-5K for all-in-one sound effects but then I'm not a HT or TV guy with all the sound affects. I'd rather read the news and
I like that usually on a laptop/PC. I binge a lot of TV series but I don't like the house rattling because of sound effects. I'm still a bit shell shocked
as they diagnosed me with in the 70s. It stuck with me behind heavy equipment and quite a few mishaps through the years.

I don't care for active speakers, especially studio monitors. Twice friends have lost onboard amps and it was a PITA to get a new one and both
times the warranty was long gone. At least half of all the active speakers I've heard are noisy, BUT then I didn't set them all up either. I did help
a few buddies hunt down their "HISS" problems. It's always cheap cables and routing, BUT there are some active speakers that are just plain noisy.

I rally don't like untreated rooms and THEIR answer was room correction, I'm usually good for 10-15 minutes of that.

95% of straight wire with gain drives me bonkers. They usually have a very limited venue that sounds good on that setup. I don't like the limitations
and I REALLY like to color the sound to my liking.

I've never been a fan of hard domes in anything whether mids or highs, 50.00 for a pair or 1500,00 for a pair they just suck unless everything is
just perfect. Wilson and B&W both boil my ears, and I have some old a$$ ears.

I'm not a big fan of most SS power amps over protracted periods of time BUT, the newer class Ds have a slight roll-off that works pretty well for my ears.
I like the Pass and Mcintosh SS sound vs SSTs Ampzilla. The new Atmasphere GaN with the feed back dialed in are wonderful. I can listen for hours just
like an MC225/240/30s or the Cary's valve amps with EL34, KT66, or 6L6 (BP). It's got to be an exceptional KT88/90/120/150 or even 300B to make me want
to listen. Not a huge fan of Class A when they are pushing the power of either, SS or Valves. I don't like distortion that much. :)

Hi hate Waifu packaging on iems, or anything else.

I still love the sound of ESLs.

Oh and if it says Behringer it's crap.

I guess I'll have to keep my thoughts on bottom brackets and headsets to myself.

I hate racists and pulleys
Well, I hope you mean bullies. I find them to be wonderful targets especially when I've figured out what makes them go nuts. I'll push that button
a thousand times. My personal pet peeve is arrogance, jealousy, and covetousness. Being rude is pretty high on my hit list too. Being a gentleperson
seems to be the exception in this day and age. As my grandmother used to say, manners don't cost, they only pay.

Regards

I have an audio prejudice against people who say they can hear the difference between an uncompressed file and a 256kb/s mp3, I always think they're talking nonsense and have convinced themselves, but maybe they really do hear a difference, I don't know.
