What I would do first is find some good reviews on the Sony unit, especially the app ecosystem and how well DLNA is supported. These are the two main things that will possibly save you an extra box. Also note that any new TV will come equipped with an app ecosystem that is superior to the DB players and will also offer way longer support for it. You can connect the TV optically to the RME as well. All in all, both a HTPC as well as an all in one disc player are bit of a compromise, but I think the player is generally a better one. But if you already have a fairly recent smartTV, you can just buy a cheaper DB player. You’ll still only have one boxYou have now received opinions and solutions from several technically experienced users, each with at least 20-30 years of experience. You don't have to listen to it and the fun lies in having your own experiences.
